- While sailing in the fleet as Chief Engineer, I was placed on a special assignment by company management to implement the company's second-generation electronic maintenance system.
- This was a Y2K-compliant MS Windows system called RAST, a Norwegian acronym standing for Maintenance, Scheduling, and Spare Parts Management.
- Developed and converted all existing job plans, spare parts, and equipment hierarchies for a fleet of 30 vessels.
- Created technical documents such as user manuals, process flows and system diagrams.
- Equipment hierarchies were based on the Norwegian SFI system.
- Developed all business processes for the new software platform.
- The project was successful, going live before the January 1st 2000 deadline.

- I developed the equipment hierarchy, the spare parts database, and converted the paper Planned Maintenance System into an electronic format.
- As a one-man team, I identified, inventoried, bagged, and labeled thousands of spare machinery parts on each vessel.
- The project was successfully completed on time and under budget.
- The SPIM system was used until it was replaced 10 years later by RAST, a Y2K-compliant MS Windows product.
