Additional Information

  • 23 years experience in the Water Treatment industry.
  • 14 years management and supervisory experience in water treatment plant operations.
  • Served as assistant to the Project Manager in the construction of Tampa Bay Water’s, state-of-the-art, 66 MGD (million gallons per day) surface water treatment plant which provides high-quality drinking water to the Tampa Bay region. As Lead Water Treatment Operator, I assisted the project manager by providing guidance, feedback and quality control by observing and reviewing various construction activities. This plant was the first in the State of Florida to employ Veolia Water's patented ACTIFLO® coagulation, flocculation and sedimentation process which was a new  technology in 2002, the year the plant was completed. Testing and optimizing this treatment process required a rethinking of traditional surface water treatment. Not only did I become an expert on this treatment process but I drew upon my expertise and innovative thinking to come up with on-the-fly redesigns in order to correct for previously unforeseen contingencies in the initial design. Once the plant was completed, I developed operational strategies and planned all operator shift schedules while assisting the plant manager in hiring and training all plant operations staff. I developed and completed Monthly Operating Reports (MORs), wrote plant Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), directed water quality monitoring, water sampling and lab testing to ensure optimal water quality at all times.
  • Was an team leader and integral part of the US Filter /Veolia Acceptance Testing Group which conducted the required continuous operation of the newly constructed 66 MGD surface water treatment plant. This test consisted of operating the treatment plant at full capacity, 66 MGD, for uninterrupted 7 days . This successful effort produced a total of 462 million gallons of drinking water and resulted the plant being granted full acceptance by Tampa Bay Water.
  • Worked directly with the University of Central Florida to develop treatment strategies and processes to improve and enhance water quality throughout Polk County. Coauthored a study with UCF Professor Steven Duranceau and others titled "Innovative Hydrogen Sulfide Treatment Methods: Moving Beyond Packed Tower Aeration"  published in the Florida Water Resources Journal - July 2010.
  • Awarded the Dr. A. P. Black Award in 2017 as the top Water Treatment Plant Operator in the State of Florida.
