These rotations were at the START, COPE, and ICOPE Clinics under Monique Torrez BSN, RN. Helped further cement therapeutic communication skills with psychiatric patients, communication and collaboration with interprofessional staff, maintaining patient comfort, and gave much perspective on how every nurse will need to know how to treat patients with psychiatric disorders no matter their specialty.
These rotations were under Remedios R Medina BSN, RN. Introduced me to case management, monitoring of chronic conditions, prevention of complications associated with chronic conditions and aging, and following up with patients based on their concerns with medications or new onset complications in order to prevent hospital visits.
These rotations were at the PCU under Alexander Garnat BSN, RN. Helped to cement competence with patient assessment, task management and prioritization, medication administration, critical thinking, therapeutic communication with patients, patient advocacy, patient education, taking accountability for and learning from mistakes, and communicating/collaborating with interprofessional staff.
These rotations were at the MBU, Labor and Delivery, and Labor and Delivery Triage units under Nina Walchko BSN, RN. Helped to further widen my perspective on nursing care performed for unique populations, further my assessment skills on laboring mothers, assist in the birthing two newborns, assist in the OR with a C-section, and get accustomed to the fast-paced nature of L&D.
These rotations were at the GPU and PICU at UNM under Claire E Sibley BSN, RN. Helped deepen critical thinking skills, expand knowledge on nursing care for the pediatric population, and widened perspective on forms of nursing for other populations.
These clinical rotations were at the Med-Surg (3A) Unit for six rotations across six weeks under Valerie Francis MSN, RN. Helped build critical thinking skills, medication administration skills, documentation skills, ability to compare assessment data and vital signs and note trends, ability to give and receive shift report, and ability to identify unsafe situations. Further build upon assessment skills, staff communication and collaboration, and ability to communicate effectively and therapeutically with patients.
These rotations were at the Spinal Cord Injury Unit under Geraldine Y Guerra-Sandoval, MSN, RN, CMSRN. Helped to commence patient assessment skills, therapeutic communication skills, and communication skills with interprofessional staff members.
Took notes for each NHS meeting, took attendance for these meetings. Helped to find numerous volunteering opportunities, such as communicating with the school gardener for NHS volunteers to help at the garden, communicating with the vice principal to let NHS assist with tutoring for younger students, and giving suggestions for what NHS students could do to volunteer.
