Steven Wehrwein

As far back as I can remember, I have liked working with my hands and making things. It started with things like LEGOs, where I had clear instructions to follow. But I soon started to design my own things. I would make little electric cars out of empty Altoids cans, and I even eventually decided to try making my own RC Airplanes. Upon getting a 3D printer, I started learning to use CAD to design my own objects. Because I love going through the design process and seeing my designs come to a satisfying conclusion, I want to study Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering so I can have this same enjoyment throughout my future career.

• In the National Honor Society, I do much community service, such as trail cleanups, helping the school with events, and making cards for the elderly.
• I volunteer to play guitar for my youth group at Woodmen Valley Chapel, Heights Campus. I spend countless hours preparing and practicing to perform for the sets, and many more hours at the church to rehearse with the bands and perform.
• Outside of National Honor Society, I also spend a lot of time to help the school with events such as sports games, dances and various other events. I help by running concessions for the games, or helping set up and tear down before and after the event happens. I occasionally get a lead role in events, such as being the DJ for a middle school dance.
• I have helped take care of animals, mainly dogs, at the National Mill Dog Rescue, and at the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Utah

• Nominated for the Positive Athlete Award
• Received Honor Roll for all the semesters from 9th Grade to present
• Scholarship Recipient of multiple merit-based scholarships from various colleges
• Competed in the USATF National Junior Olympics
• Competed in State meet for Cross - Country during 11th and 12th grade
• Competed in State meet for Track and Field during 11th grade (12th grade state meet is later this year)
• Captain of the Cross - Country Team during 12th grade
• Captain of the Track and Field Team during 10th, 11th, and 12th grade
• Received multiple awards in Track and Cross - Country, based on high athletic performance
• Received Thomas Iagulli Leadership Award during 12th grade Cross - Country, for showing high levels of leadership
• Received CHSAA Academic All State First Team Award, for showing high athletic and scholarly performance
