  • I was hired into a 2-year apprenticeship position (Maintenance Mechanic) but was advanced to journeyman after only 1-year
  • Journeyman Maintenance Mechanic is required to perform routine maintenance and inspections during the first four hours of assigned shift and perform all on-call or as-needed repairs during the second four hours of assigned shift
  • Duties included general building maintenance as well as maintenance on all equipment (package conveyor equipment)
  • Building maintenance duties consisted of installing and/or changing key-pad door locks, hydraulic door closers, and computer keyboard sliding trays
  • Installing, inspecting and/or changing overhead fluorescent light tubes and ballasts or HID lights and ballasts, sometimes requiring the use of electric scissor lifts to reach 20 foot high ceilings
  • Equipment maintenance duties consisted of daily inspection and necessary repairs of all 18 inch to 60 inch width conveyors
  • Operate fork lifts daily
  • Complete and submit daily, weekly, monthly and bi-annual Pre Maintenance Inspection (PMI) reports for conveyor systems, lighting systems, etc
  • Conduct inventory and re-ordering of various shop items such as electrical fuses, heating elements, chains, sprockets, conveyor belt material, etc
