Summary

Originally native to the piedmont plateau of Maryland nicely nestled betwixt the coastal plains of the Chesapeake Bay and Appalachian Mountains, Steven was raised with a foundational, faith-based worldview developing an early appreciation of the outdoors, respect for the environment and a sense of adventure.

A broad-based background with forty-plus years of combined uniformed military and civilian federal experience as a medical provider in prehospital, emergency medicine, critical and primary care began with a first aid merit badge earned in the early-70's progressing as an Emergency Medical Technician, Dive Medical Technician, Registered Nurse, Certified Emergency Nurse, Hyperbaric Medical Officer & Aeromedical Physician Assistant.

Work History

Medical Provider - 1979 to 2002

US Army, National Guard & Reserve

Thirty days following high school graduation he was southbound on a night train to basic training at Fort Jackson then westward to Fort Sam Houston for medic training and finally Fort Benning completing jump school. His military training also included Recondo School at Fort Bragg & the Jungle Operations Training Center at Fort Sherman.

Retiring as a Citizen-Soldier, Sergeant Major David served in airborne, light infantry, special operation & special mission units; and an assignment at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences’ Casualty Care Research Center as an Adjunct Faculty Research Instructor. He was the Special Forces Medical Sergeant (18D) honor graduate from his SF Qualification Course in the late-80's.

Medical Provider - 1989 to 2015

US Government

Exceeding two decades, his civil & foreign service career includes assignments at the National Security Agency providing static medical support & field training to the SIGINT & INFOSEC mission and at the Central Intelligence Agency providing dynamic medical & operational support to the HUMINT & Para-Military mission in kinetic, low intensity conflict and hard-target operations.

Residing abroad in the Middle-East, Asia, Australasia, Eastern & Western Europe, a peripatetic lifestyle provided an odyssey of exploits in seventy-plus countries to satiate his vocational & avocational aspirations.

Retirement!

Retired once again, Steven maintains an active outdoor lifestyle, reveling in the role of grandfather, sharing time with family & friends, playing mandolin & autoharp, practicing the art of knot tying, pilgrimaging to our National Parks and gardening, beekeeping & working on projects around his property.

Additionally, he can be found on the airwaves as an Extra Class Amateur Radio Operator, tinkering on his vintage Series IIA Land Rover or riding his BMW GS Adventure down non-bitumen byways… "Life's a Road March. Ruck Up. Move Out." SGM David
