Projects

Acceleration, Deceleration and Stopping Sight Distance Criteria for Geometric Design of Highways and Streets, National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) Transportation Research Board of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, This project involves the development of enhanced guidance on acceleration, deceleration, and stopping sight distance criteria for the geometric design of highways and streets. This includes proposing updates to the criteria contained in the 2018 AASHTO Green Book., I helped in collecting data, quality control, statistical analysis, and drafting reports. Evaluating the Performance and Safety Effectiveness of Roundabouts- An Update, Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT), This project evaluated the short and long-term performance of Michigan roundabouts, culminating in guidance for future investments decisions by both MDOT and other county and local agencies around Michigan, I helped in collecting data, quality control, statistical analysis, and drafting reports Complete Streets Speed Impacts, Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT), This project examines the impacts of complete street geometric features such as on-street parking, bike lanes, and TWLTL on drivers’ operating speed. This would be done by conducting a series of field studies that will examine various speed metrics, which would then be used to provide guidance for forecasting operational and safety implications of design decisions. This project is anticipated to improve the safety of Minnesota roadways, particularly those where complete streets policies are viable, including both the state and local road networks. The project will result in quantitative estimates of the impacts of various design elements on vehicle operating speeds (i.e., “speed modification factors”). This information will allow for more informed design decisions that help to reduce the risks of traffic crashes, injuries, and fatalities, particularly at locations that experience high volumes of non-motorized traffic. The results can help to inform MnDOT and local agency design policies, in addition to introducing cost savings for both transportation agencies and road users., I currently lead the implementation of this project. My roles are to design the experiment and lead the field data collection process. I am also leading all data reduction and analysis processes. Also, I am taking the lead in preparing all the reports and documenting all accomplished tasks
