STEAM- Design and Engineering

Author & Researcher, 'Water Wastage in Modern Toilet Systems'

  • Worked with Ms. Tara Love, Ph.D. Candidate, Chemical Engineering, Cambridge University, Conducted research on how to reduce water waste through a novel toilet system. Authored a 20-page literature review on current toilet technology & systems, comparing water wastage, cost, hygiene, and chemical processes. Developed a CAD design of a novel toilet system, as an alternative to U-shaped and compost toilets, to reduce water waste.

Independent Design Thinking Project (Acrylic Paint Container)

  • Designed and prototyped an eco-friendly container to increase the shelf-life of acrylic paint. Researched & tested existing designs; used CAD to develop an air-tight container that contained oil and paints in separate compartments & used a two-part mixing syringe to optimally mix the oil and paint before it is released.

A-Level Extended Project Qualification

  • Roti Roller Prototype, Developed a design for a more efficient 'Roti Maker' (Roti is an Indian flatbread) to assist individuals with limited joint mobility. Design comprises a rolling pin mechanism and base, which rotates to assist the movement of the rolling pin using the bevel gear mechanism. Requires no external pressure.

Leadership roles

House Council Head (Year 12), School House Council

  • Organised house competitions, team activities, and year 12 & 13 events. Ideated improvement strategies with year group heads to improve the house system.

Arts and design

Logo Creation

  • Elected to design a sticker for the 'Kellett School Hot Sauce' bottle, that was distributed as a souvenir embodying the spirit of Hong Kong. Selected to design the floor sticker for a music corner at my school, inspired by floor sticker used in London Underground to designate live performance spaces. Conceptualised and created my house logo (Bowen House); selected out of 100+ other entries.
  • Selected to design a sticker for the 'mixed media' still life observational pieces, sculptures, installations, photography, portraits, paintings, UI/UX project, CAD designs

Creator, WISM Cover

Student, Click 852 (Photography Course)

  • Participating in a 20-hour street and studio photography course under the mentorship of Michael Kistler (HongKong-based urban photographer). Gained an understanding of the photography triangle including - aperture, shutter speed, and ISO, to create different types of images. Learned about the roles of various artists in contemporary photography and their iconic styles; adopted these techniques to create a coherent series of works based on a theme/concept.

Hong Kong Architecture Photography Project

  • Used original photographs to juxtapose Hong Kong's old-charm and colonial beauty with the city's modern architectural marvels. The project is meant to represent the city's past, present and future as a world-class port city, serving as a gateway of China to the rest of the world.
