Summary

Chemical engineer with over four years of experience in ultra-high vacuum (UHV) systems and surface science, specializing in the design, synthesis, and characterization of mixed oxide catalysts. My PhD research at the University of Florida focused on thin-film deposition and surface reactivity, where I gained expertise in spectroscopy and materials characterization. During my master’s at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore, I worked on evaluating the effectiveness of anti-agglomerant gas hydrate inhibitors using molecular simulations, employing both commercial and in-house codes developed in Fortran and shell scripting. Alongside my technical skills, I bring strengths in equipment troubleshooting, process optimization, cross-functional collaboration, mentorship, and project management.

Work History

Graduate Research Assistant

Jason Weaver Group
08.2021 - Current

  • Developed a system-specific model for estimating oxide film thickness using AES and XPS
  • Performed detailed TPD spectra fitting to characterize and quantify iridium and ruthenium distribution in mixed-oxide film surfaces.
  • Led the design and fabrication of cost-effective purge boxes for FTIR instrumentation, delegating the construction to a master’s student, while overseeing design specifications and workflow efficiency.
  • Troubleshot and maintained laboratory equipment - including FTIR instrumentation, mass spectrometer, atomic oxygen plasma source, and electron beam evaporators - by coordinating with manufacturers to ensure timely repairs and minimize downtime.
  • Collaborated with computational project team of Dr David Hibbitts from Purdue university through regular meetings, translating shared insights into informed experimental strategies for study of mixed transition metal oxides
  • Assisted in manuscript preparation, contributing to the publication of articles in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Assisted in data collection and experimental work at national laboratories.

Masters Student

Punnathanam Group
08.2019 - 05.2021

  • Conducted advanced molecular simulations to evaluate the effectiveness of anti-agglomerant gas hydrate inhibitors in preventing gas hydrate formation in oil pipelines, ensuring flow assurance under extreme conditions.
  • Utilized diverse simulation tools, including commercial software (LAMMPS), non-commercial molecular simulation packages (Brick-CFCMC), and custom in-house codes, to generate and analyze computational results.
  • Analyzed and interpreted complex datasets, applying statistical and computational methods to draw insights into the inhibitor performance and hydrate behavior.
