Registered Nurse, Emergency Department

Robert J. Dole of Veterans Affairs Medical Center
10.2018 - 2025

I have worked in the emergency setting for fourteen years. I enjoy critical thinking and moving quickly in emergent situations. I have been with the VA for seven years. In the last three years, I have completed several projects that involved collaboration with several different departments, including a yellow belt project for the Emergency Department, a new transport system with Radiology, and working on another yellow belt project with Radiology. These opportunities have given me a chance to learn and grow by utilizing leadership skills, as well as collaboratively working with a team to find efficient and cost-effective solutions. Most recently, I have started working at home as a Tele-Emergency Care triage nurse. This opportunity has been very rewarding, as I can assist in helping our veterans through a complicated healthcare system. Additionally, I currently work in the Emergency Department as a BSN-trained nurse, and I have started to work toward my master's degree as a Family Nurse Practitioner. My experience at the VA has provided me with the highest job satisfaction, and this company has far exceeded my expectations in healthcare. I hope to join a team in person or through telehealth to serve our veterans and apply the skills and knowledge that I have obtained over the last fourteen years in the Emergency Department.

Registered Nurse, Emergency Department

Wesley Woodlawn Hospital & ER
04.2006 - 01.2019

I worked with this company for 13 years as a registered nurse in the Emergency Department. The skills I utilized the most were starting IV sites, initiating IV starts utilizing the Sono site machine, medication administration, and communication with the healthcare team, patients, and their families. I was a charge nurse for the unit and I enjoyed leading the team and keeping the department running smoothly. Conflict management was a strong suit of mine and I pride myself on being able to resolve any issue that was brought to the table.

  • As a Nurse Practitioner student, my clinicals were completed at several different sites. This was a great opportunity and the experience I gained was invaluable. The area I spent the most time in was the Emergency Room. I love Emergency medicine and it is my passion. However, I discovered that I also love primary care. It was a whole new area of medicine I had never seen and I thoroughly enjoyed having the opportunity to get to know my patients.
