I provide occupational therapy services at a not-for-profit school with children and young adults with autism, developmental and neurological disorders, with severe behavioral challenges. The curriculum focuses on improving academic, functional living, and vocational skills. Occupational Therapy programming encouraged close collaboration with team members and educational staff to ensure consistent application of class programs within the school day. Home strategies were developed in collaboration with parents to facilitate transfer of skills between environments. I designed and developed a sensory room to allow access for students with sensory regulation challenges. I supervise one certified occupational therapy assistant.
I provided direct and consultative intervention with children and young adults 3-21 years of age in a public-school setting. My focus was to improve academic performance within students
individualized curriculums, in the area of fine motor, self-care skills, functional living skill, sensory impairments and visual/perceptual motor skills. I collaborated with our occupational therapy team to develop the use of standardized department forms, and a policy and procedures manual.
I was a member of the Early Childhood Assessment Team within the district ensuring assisting in the transition for children and their families from Part C to Part B, and serviced the early childhood classrooms within the lower half of the district.
I conducted evaluations, and provided direct & consultative occupational therapy intervention with a sensory integration focus in both clinical, home and school environments for children 3-21
years of age. Using a family integrated approach, I developed home programs and provided weekly check-ins with families and educators. When providing services within the schools. I collaborated with multi-disciplinary team members to enhance sensory, fine motor, visual motor, and visual perception skills to facilitate academic skill acquisition in the classroom. I gained Sensory Integration Praxis Test (SIPT) certification.
