With over six years at Saint Alphonsus, I have honed critical skills in patient care with varying degrees of acuity. My experience spans from hospital-wide emergency response, to direct patient and family support, to physician and nursing assistance, which hopefully has significantly enhanced a few patient outcomes as well as operational efficiency within the emergency department.
For the last six years, I have been an EDT in a Level II trauma center, where I encountered all degrees of patient acuity and learned to respond appropriately. Under the supervision of staff nurses and physicians, I conducted certain patient assessments, tracked vital signs, performed ECG's, treated wounds, splinted injured limbs, set up equipment for invasive procedures, assisted with invasive procedures, and prioritized overall care based on clinician orders and current patient presentation. Other daily tasks and responsibilities involved:
Prior to my move to the Emergency Room, I was a float pool CNA through all of the departments within the hospital. This provided me with various opportunities to learn about different medical specialties and their nuances. Through working in an inpatient setting I was able to document information within the patient chart, become familiar with assisting patients with their ADL's, as well as monitor them for any changes which I would then report to their RN.
