Roles And Responsibilities
- Follows CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and safety guidelines as described in their respective guidelines.
- Analyzes specimens using approved testing procedures.
- Adheres to the laboratory's quality control policies, documents all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and all maintenance performed.
- Identifies problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results, correct the problems encountered or immediately notify the senior technologist or supervisor.
- Documents all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratories' established performance specifications.
- If applicable, answers questions from clients or other medical personnel.
- Maintains complete records of all testing performed on-site.
- Makes sure reagents/test kits have received dates, expiration dates, and if applicable opened dates.
- Review/train on new procedures.
- Participates in all applicable safety training sessions. Know the location and contents of the safety manual. Know the location/use of all applicable safety equipment.
- Performs other duties as directed by supervisor.
- Attends monthly department and any additional training/educational meetings.
- Competent in developing and validating new tests, process treatments and instruments with special focus on the process of quality control.
- Qualified to handle phlebotomy procedures by collecting specimens from patients and ensuring sample integrity is constantly maintained.
- Performs internal quality control testing in all sections and does reagent preparations.
- Responsible for identity and report any panic value as per laboratory/hospital critical results reporting protocol.
- Responsible to reject any unacceptable samples received in the laboratory as per rejection policy.
- Performs external quality control testing (CAP).
- Liable for updating and checking all the laboratory inventory and stocks for daily laboratory work and scanning any consumables through the system.
- Experienced in using the Laboratory Information System and Hospital Information System.
