I am currently a preschool teacher at The Summit Preparatory School. I am responsible for creating curriculum and implementing existing curriculum with my students. I am responsible for assessing all students and implementing differentiated instruction for the students of varying ages and abilities within my classroom. I am responsible for communicating with parents regarding their child's progress and addressing any concerns that arise pertaining to their child's behavior at school. I am tasked with organizing trimester celebrations that welcome parents into the classroom to observe their child's educational progress. I am tasked with assembling portfolios of student work to present to parents at the conclusion of the academic year.
As a paraprofessional at Harrison Kindergarten I worked under the reading specialist. The reading specialist planned strategic lessons and interventions that I would implement with struggling readers. I implemented the lessons, assessed the students, and collaborated with the reading specialist to identify which students no longer required our services.
I was one of two Pre-K teachers at Carpenters Kids Preschool and Kindergarten. I was responsible for creating curriculum and implementing those lessons with the students. I was responsible for managing my students' behavior issues and helping to create a behavior plan that would modify their behavior. My responsibility also involved updating the parents of my students on their progress regarding the content knowledge being taught. I was also responsible for collaborating with other teachers to create curriculum that would cross all developmental domains and ensure the students would be prepared for Kindergarten.
In this role I was the lead teacher in one of three Kindergarten classrooms. I was responsible for teaching the school districts chosen curriculum and creating a classroom environment in which all my students felt welcome and comfortable to ensure learning could happen. I was also responsible for assessing students' growth in order to better prepare them for first grade and for communicating with parents about their child’s progress. I was also responsible for managing behavior in my classroom and working with a wide range of diverse students, both ethnically and academically. I was responsible for differentiating instruction so that students that learn in different ways could still be successful. I also regularly collaborated with the other kindergarten teachers to help create curriculum, brainstorm ways to help struggling students, and plan our intervention strategies to use with students.
