Assistant Store Manager

Family Dollar
10.2003 - 09.2022
  • Responsible for ensuring store's funds were efficiently and accurately handled, including being solely accountable for own drawer, and supervised CSR's to ensure accurate transactions, minimizing discrepancies. Handled business record keeping.
  • Completed opening and closing procedures, following Corporate directives for daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly tasks, goals, and objectives.
  • Directed daily workflows to drive sales, optimize productivity, streamline efficiencies, minimize shrink, and recommended changes to enhance store's success.
  • Followed all safety procedures, and was responsible for ensuring employee's and customers' safety, and promptly reporting and handling any incidents appropriately.
  • Multitasked and used time efficiently to manage the constant multiple demands, including prioritizing, delegating, and triaging when necessary.
  • Completed multiple monthly schematic resets, handled all aspects of freight including unloading in most efficient, organized way possible, stocking merchandise correctly and supervising CSR's stocking for efficiency, accuracy and to drive sales. Merchandised and reorganized displays frequently to maintain clean, inviting store environment and optimize sales. Responsible for changing, or supervising CSRs changing, sales signs weekly and monthly to ensure that only the correct sales signs were posted as directed.
  • Soley responsible for Apparel Department, managing inventory and frequent display changes to maximize sales of one of the highest profit margin departments. So successful at this that traveled to other locations to redo their stores, and train employees at those locations to handle Apparel Departments better to increase their sales.
  • Worked in 4 different store locations over the course of my career, along with occasional traveling to other store locations to provide assistance in situations ranging from short-staffed crises, stores in extremely rough conditions that needed clean up and resets, or to provide training and assistance to stores that required in person help to improve their sales.
  • The 4th store location, where I worked for 9 years, was a training store for many store managers, assistant store managers, and occasional district managers. They came to our store for weeks - months to learn how to run a store. Along with my manager, I directly trained these new employees to enable them to have the best possible chance to hit the ground running and be able to successfully and efficiently run their own stores upon leaving, following all Corporate standards and policies, and further mentored and trained these newer employees over the phone when they were in their store locations and needed help.
  • Maintained inventory accuracy in all aspects by being responsible for my own accuracy and supervising CSR's to ensure their accuracy in transactions, cash handling, stocking, and straightening. Also maintained inventory accuracy through being responsible, along with the Store Manager, for weekly cycle counts, and getting the store ready for yearly inventory. During yearly inventory checked 3rd Party inventory crew's work to ensure their accuracy.
  • Participated in all aspects of hiring from viewing and rating applications/resumes, to calling applicants, and occasionally part of interviewing and onboarding.
  • Along with Store Manager trained new employees, from daily tasks to learning how to set displays and redo schematics, and then supervised them thereafter to ensure they followed Company Policies and met Company Standards. Mentored them as needed to improve performance.
  • Frequently was senior manager on duty (roughly 75% of my shifts), and therefore responsible for protecting and maintaining Corporate funds and assets, controlling shrink, following policies and ensuring all CSR's did as well, directing workflow to meet and exceed goals for the workday, adjusting to call-ins, no-shows, late or delayed deliveries, personnel issues, and ensuring mandatory trainings were completed and understood. Ensured communication occurred between shifts, whether verbally in daytime shift changes or with clear notes from the closing shift to opening. Available to my teammates via phone when I was off work if they had a question. Was flexible to help cover unexpected employee unavailability when able.
  • Nurtured a positive, fair team environment that celebrated successes, improved performances when opportunities existed, and held all workers accountable. Many CSR's turned to me for advice, support and empathy through difficult times in their lives. Respected privacy and confidentiality, but also made sure employees were aware that if something they told me needed to be passed to my Manager, District Manager, or Loss Prevention, I would do so.
  • Met and exceeded Corporate Standards for customer service in all store locations worked at, including higher than normal volume of positive customer service survey responses, and store was well known in area for cleanliness and fast, friendly service. This drove increased sales and built a loyal clientele. To this day (2 years after I left to work at WDNR) I encounter former customers who tell me how the store has gone downhill since I left, and how much they miss me and what the store used to be like, and how they do not shop there anymore.
  • Managed opening and closing procedures and recommended changes to enhance efficiency of daily activities. Occasionally did scheduling.
