As an anesthesia technician, I do room turnovers after procedures, stock items, and prepare circuits while following Infection Control Guidelines to clean equipment. I handle many physiological monitoring functions by analyzing and recording different equipment or devices, such as preparing arterial lines, POC testing, autologous blood recovery systems, and CO monitors setups. Moreover, I communicate with providers to ensure that everything is ready before and during surgery. I stay present in the room during trauma cases and prepare the necessary equipment while I assist in emergency cases.
In this position, there are two main roles: phlebotomy and processing. When performing blood draws, I use the necessary skills to ensure a successful blood draw. In addition to that, I make sure to prioritize patient safety and interactions with patients. Processing specimens requires paying attention to details, being able to multitask, and working in a fast-paced environment while following specific lab instructions. Overall, this position is a significant learning experience for me as it contributes to providing quality care for patients and improves my skills to grow further.
In this job, patient safety is the main goal. When contaminated surgical instruments are received, there are specific steps that must be done: decontamination, organizing, sterilization, and storing. In decontamination, cleaning instruments is the main focus, then it is organizing instruments in their specific trays and ensuring that all instruments are there. The sterilization of each tray is the following process. Finally, after ensuring all items are sterile, all trays are stored in their proper place. There are also other processes followed to ensure patient safety and infection control.
