Under direct supervision of a licensed Nurse or other professional medical staff in a health care setting, performs a variety of clerical and health-related essential duties and responsibilities associated with patient care; performs related work.
Daily Tasks:
1. A member of the Revenue Cycle process, the Inpatient Financial Counselor's primary responsibility is to work with patients and families in the inpatient setting to identify and obtain coverage for uninsured or under insured patients.
Job Responsibilities:
Responsible for screening uninsured or underinsured inpatients to identify insurance coverage or enrollment eligibility. Screens most often occur on the inpatient floors.
Assists inpatients that do not qualify for enrollment with charity care programs.
Ensure all documentation is complete and submitted for program applications.
Scan patient ID, insurance card(s), referral forms (if applicable) and consent forms obtained from the patient into document imaging system.
Follow-up on status of applications until a coverage determination is made.
Coordinate with Case Management and/or Social Work to support patients and families through the application process.
Document patient information clearly and completely in the Health Information System (HIS).
Interact with other Departments to identify patient status determinations and changes.
Refer accounts requiring escalation to Supervisor in a timely manner.
Perform all other duties as assigned by Supervisor and/or Designee.

Identify patients using the Check 12 approach.
Generate patient wristbands and place the band on the patient's wrist.
Interview patients thoroughly to ensure the accurate collection and entry of demographic, pharmacy, and insurance information.

MAR #2: Workload and Services Documentation
Keep a log of all work performed; including but not limited to, list of all full registrations, mini-registrations, appointments made, admissions entered, # of packets created, # of beds assigned, etc. Give log to tour manager at end of shift each day.
Scan all required documents into patients' electronic medical record (includes consent forms, IDs, insurance cards, ACRs, EKGs, medical records, etc.)
MAR # 3: Participate as an Active Member of the Admitting / ED Department
Model positive and professional interactions between staff, leadership, providers, patients and visitors.
Attend and actively participate in all assigned meetings and in-services.
Participate in assigned Quality Assurance (QA) duties, including Breakthrough training events and initiatives and attendance at DMS board briefs.
Perform other related duties.
