- Beginning part-time in 1987, I taught English to at-risk high school students (16-20 years old.) In 1994 as a full-time staff member, I created, with a small team of teachers, an innovative and award-winning program for alternative students called the Pilot program
- (We were one of ten national recipients of a NFIE/Apple grant in 1994.) Through cooperative, thematic and integrated teaching, we experienced great success with students who were habitually truant, often fell below the poverty line, and frequently suffered from addiction, abuse or behavioral issues.
