Medical Supply Technician

  • I was responsible for the processing and distribution of semi-critical and critical Reusable Medical Equipment (RME) utilized by all areas of the Medical Center.
  • Duties of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Prepares, stores and distributes semi-critical and critical RME used by all patient care and treatment entities;
  • Supports the needs of the Operating Room (OR) preparing instruments and complex trays for utilization according to the operative schedule;
  • Identifies damaged and malfunctioning instruments, reassembling multi-part of complex sets, inspecting them for gross contamination, properly placing instruments in the set according to the needs for the specific tray;
  • Ensures all surgical case carts are completed and available to support daily surgical schedules;
  • Provides surgical instrumentation to the OR, Specialty Clinics, and Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs);
  • Evaluates the anticipated needs of surgical instruments and trays using established procedures and standardized inventories and effects required changes using knowledge and experience in operating room procedures and medical terminology;
  • Completes sterile instrument processing for the SPS.

  • Decontaminates, reprocesses, and sterilizes all surgical sets and instruments for the surgical days caseload.
  • I also answered to all requests from the surgery rooms as cases are being performed and stat items etc. are needed.
  • I worked with many instrument Vendors and made sure their loaner sets for the cases were checked off, cleaned and sterilized for that particular case.
  • I ordered and restocked all disposable supplies for our department.
  • I could recognize the different cases and what items, instruments that were needed to possibly be turned over for later cases that day without any instructions from the O.R. rooms.
  • Worked very closely with the Surgical Nurse Manager for various duties in that position.
