FAMILIES HELPING FAMILIES PROGRAM

  • I developed this first annual program matching sponsor families with families in need for the Holidays.
  • Making a child’s Christmas, where otherwise they would go without.
  • Created in 2000, it continues to serve the community.

CALIFORNIA STATE LOBBY

  • I helped to bring about the passage of SB 739 put forth by Senator Jackie Speier, requiring hospitals in the State of California to report incidences of MRSA Staph infections to the Center for Disease Control.
  • The motivating factor that brought about my inclusion into the legislative process was that my grandmother came down with hospital acquired Staph at the age of 93 and her condition was seemingly dismissed by medical professionals, which brought me to educate myself about Staph and pushing for passage of this bill.
  • SB 739 was designed to hold hospitals accountable for their facilities cleanliness, in order to reduce patient’s risk of contracting Staph while under their care.
  • SB 739 was formerly struck down by Arnold Schwarzenegger in the State of California, but after careful review of my emotional, yet substantive and compelling case as to why SB 739 should be passed, Schwarzenegger signed for passage.
