• 2023 – Present Society of Hospital Medicine Community Engagement Committee Served on this committee which makes recommendations of reliable and effective strategies to support the integration of DEI practices to support the organization’s governance. The committee also writes articles for the Hospitalist monthly newsletter for SHM.
• 2019 – 2026 Society of Hospital Medicine Annual Conference Committee This committee develops the curriculum for the Society of Annual Meetings every year. This includes creating the educational tracks within the meeting, reviewing all the speaker topic proposals. (over 200+ every year) and choosing speakers for the national meeting.
• 2020 – 2021 Society of Hospital Medicine Ad Hoc Education Committee Developed a national website entitled, COVID 19 Non-Hospitalist Onboarding Resources. This project brought together hospitalists from around the country to develop a resource guidebook for hospitals around the country to onboard non hospitalists to work alongside hospitalists during the COVID 19 Pandemic.

• 2020- Present Dr. William F. Larkin Lecture Series, Baylor University Medical Center, Dallas TX Co-Founder and Organizer of the Dr. William F. Larkin Series. Dr. William Larkin was the first African American physician and Physician of Color to be granted privileges to practice medicine at Baylor University Medical Center in 1968. Dr. Larkin started his career at Baylor University Medical Center as an orderly in the hospital and later went on to become a vascular surgeon. Sadly, Dr. Larkin passed away last year. Since then, we have developed a lecture series in his honor that is focused on education to address and curtail overt and systemic racism, sexism, and xenophobia influencing healthcare access, delivery, and outcomes. Over the past year, we have presented several lectures on racial injustice, implicit bias, women in leadership, and religious discrimination in healthcare.
• 2020- 2025 Dallas Campus Communities of Belonging Council, Baylor University Medical Center, Dallas TX Chair Emeritus. The Communities of Belonging Council. The Baylor University Medical Center Diversity and Inclusion Council exists to advance a culture that passionately promotes a community where all feel welcomed and valued. Our 3 aims are diversity, equity, and inclusion. Diversity: Attract, develop, and retain the best people –caring, devoted, and diverse. Inclusion: Create a workspace that supports the attraction, engagement, individual value, and retention of diverse employees Equity: Build community partnerships to create market awareness and improve our understanding of the diverse patients in our service area, while fostering an inclusive work environment that provides opportunities for team member growth and progression.
• 2023 – Present Baylor Scott and White Health Impact Committee Member of this committee, we review and support programs that promote health equity throughout the whole health care system. This is a large group of Baylor Scott and White system leaders, inpatient and outpatient physicians, care management, data analysis, and community members at large.
• 2023- 2024 Baylor Scott and White Health Social Determinants of Health Committee Member of the committee. Developed a social determinant of health screening tool that was introduced into our EMR for our outpatient, inpatient adult and pediatric patient populations. This committee was dissolved but the work is continuing through the health equity committee for Baylor Scott and White.
• 2023- Present Baylor Scott and White – Hospital Medicine Dallas, Dallas Texas Readmission Committee Member of the committee. Our goal is to review all of the seven-day readmissions for our group and provide insight and direction on how to improve the hospital readmission rate for our patient population. Provide chart review and insights on the potential reasons for seven-day readmissions to the hospital.
• 2020 – Present Baylor University Medical Center Professional Health and Behavior Committee, Baylor University Medical Center, Dallas TX Member of the committee that works to create and maintain a culture of safety within the hospital by reviewing physician health and behavior issues. Developed a code of conduct that addresses unprofessional behavior that undermines a culture of safety and can thereby be harmful to patient care.
• 2020- Present Baylor Scott and White – Hospital Medicine Dallas, Dallas Tx Education Committee Member of the committee. Our goal is to review the educational training of our physicians and APPs. We provide a lecture series that focuses on topics that are of interest to hospitalists, and we provide CME credit for these lectures. We also review the educational curriculum for our internal medicine residents
• 2018 - Present Baylor Scott and White - Hospital Medicine Dallas, Dallas TX Clinical Documentation Committee Member of the committee. Our goal is to set professional standards in clinical documentation amongst the group of hospitalists. To provide documentation improvement opportunities within the hospital, and to provide education to new providers about the importance of clear and concise clinical documentation. To support Health Texas Physician Network’s aim to move towards a value-based care model and facilitate seamless patient care.
• 2018- Present Baylor Scott and White – Hospital Medicine Dallas, Dallas TX Consult Service Committee Member of the committee. The committee provide consultative services to various physician groups on campus including orthopedic surgery, neurosurgery, and general surgery. Members of the committee also provide preoperative consultative services via an on-site preoperative clinic. In addition, we provide internal medicine consultative services to those patients receiving inpatient rehabilitative services at Baylor Institute of Rehabilitation.

• 2012-2017 Seton Adult Inpatient Medical Services, Austin Regional Clinic Austin, TX New Provider Orientation Committee Served as the committee leader of this group. Developed the New Provider Orientation Manual and established a curriculum for New Provider Orientations.
• 2012-2017 Seton Adult Inpatient Medical Services, Austin Regional Clinic Austin, TX Clinical Documentation Committee Worked with the Coding Department at Austin Regional Clinic to improve clinical documentation amongst the hospitalists, including the development of educational material for hospitalists. Gave presentations to the hospitalist group on ways to improve clinical documentation. Developed a curriculum on the transition from coding using ICD 9 to ICD 10 codes.
• 2012- 2014 Seton Healthcare Network, Austin TX. Code Status Stakeholders Workgroup Worked with a ten-member group from four different Seton Healthcare Network hospitals to develop new order sets and companion documents to help physicians in establishing a patient’s code status. This group includes members who were nurses, physicians (ED, Critical Care, Palliative Care, Oncology, and Surgery) care managers, health technology professionals, and hospital administrators. I was the only Hospitalist on the committee.

• Summer, 2003 Research Assistant Sally Nelson, PhD, Joe M. McCord, PhD, and John Repine MD. Webb Waring Antioxidant Research Institute in Denver, Colorado Analyzed the role of different haptoglobin polymorphisms contributing to the etiology of preeclampsia.
• March 2004 Research Assistant Lorraine Dugoff, MD. University of Colorado School of Medicine Ob/Gyn Department Researched the role of screening pregnant women for hemoglobinopathies.
• 1996-1998, 1999-2001 Research Assistant Deborah A. Roess and George B. Barisas, PhDs. Colorado State University. Interpreted the biophysical properties of the luteinizing hormone and its receptor in the plasma membrane. This research focused on the role of luteinizing hormone in cases of precocious puberty and infertility.
• Fall, 1998 Laboratory Assistant Worked for the University of Colorado Stem Cell Clinical Engineering Lab in conjunction with the University of Colorado Umbilical Cord Collection Team. Processed and analyzed blood for stem cell and bone marrow transplants. Worked at three major hospitals in the Denver area collecting umbilical cord blood in labor and delivery.
