Summary

Freshman Biological Engineering student with a 3.92 GPA. I am currently lab-certified according to Utah State University's current system. I have experience volunteering in the SWBEC labs, and through my volunteer work have become familiar with the various methods of wastewater treatment. Specifically, I am most familiar with anaerobic digestion, and I have become acquainted with using RABRs to grow and cultivate algae. In my volunteering work, I have gained experience by being mentored by a graduate experience, and am familiar with using analytical devices and processing data involved in methane consumption and bacteria growth.

Work History

Research Volunteer

Utah State University, USU
09.2023 - Current
  • Conducted research on improving the methane consumption and ectoine production of the bacteria Methylotuvimicrobium alcaliphilum
  • Helped manage a 10 L fermenter which involved taking samples of both the cell media and the gas content, draining the fermenter, and cleaning/sterilizing it
  • Used analytical machines such as gas chromatography and spectrophotometry and helped map the results using Excel
  • Learned the correct way of cleaning (using both traditional methods and an Autoclave), drying, and storing glassware
  • Learned the proper way the prepare and sterilize cell media
  • Learned various methods of downstream processing involving bioproducts
  • Presented findings on methods to mitigate methane produced by anaerobic digesters at the IBEC Intermountain Biological Engineering conference
