eTMF L3 Technical Support 1/1/2019 - Present

Project Description:    The Trial Master File (TMF) is the authoritative record of a clinical trial and is comprised of documents from all disciplines involved in a clinical trial setup, execution and closeout . It's our evidence that patient rights and safety have been protected and that the integrity of the trial data, study analysis, and study conclusions are credible.  Good documentation Practice are essential to being able to reconstruct events, decisions and actions to demonstrate accountability, sometimes long after the work has been completed.  The eTMF is the single, authoritative source system for this purpose. My team's responsibility is to provide L2/L3 technical support.  (One of top 10 pharmaceutical Companies)

eTMF 3.0 - System Redesign 1/1/2017 - 11/1/2018

in 2017,  to reduce the risk that the entire solution binded with an vendor's software.  Our Client started to evaluate the possibility to remove software A from UI Presentation, Controller and Service layer,  Upgrade the backed repository Documentum from current 6.7 to 7.2.  which requires a new design for entire eTMF solution for client.  I started to lead team to create the PoC for a technical assessment and also starting to evaluate the business impact with business owner and key business teams. 

The new solution is built on Spring MVC as middle-ware framework + Ext JS as UI portal + Mybatis as ORM layer + DFC as Connector to Documentum, which is minimum the specified vendor software dependency.   Most of technologies are open source framework.  it results to have 800K - 1.5M saving for client per year.  The new solution is still servicing as business mission critical system to have a high availability, stability and good performance with over 40 million clinical trial data, 50 million documents  and 4 billion report data.   supporting 18K document growing daily. 

It is a tough project that I have to inspire the team and overcome many difficult, drive the team to work on the correct direction.  We finally delivered the solution in the end of 2018.  The total of man month is about 460 with 240K Java code + 80K EXT JS. 

The solution infrastructure is a standard J2EE web application following MVC design + Documentum + Oracle,  use A10 as load balance layer,  use Apache + Webgate (SSO) as web server,  use Jboss 6.x as application servers installed in Red Hat Linux OS.   The JDK 1.8.x was taken to use 1st GC to improve JVM  performance.  DFC7.2 was taken and developed the customized DFC solutions to connect Documentum CS. 

Role:  My role is a mixed roles including architecture, technical lead, business analyst and developer e.g;. because the complexity of system requires me to play multiple roles in different stage. I have to focus on provide POC and clarify architecture concerns at the beginning.  Recollect business requirements and map them to design specification before implementation.  build the java fundamental framework for dev team to work on it.  Work with team to improve performance of solution, Deploy solution with MidTier team, Troubleshoot environment issues and so on.

  • My team is taking ownership of all eTMF project management activities including the general of SDLC documentation for releases,  project management responsibilities (eTMF releases, infrastructure upgrades, coordination of system and user testing, script writing, performance testing, prioritization & release management, requirement gathering, etc.  
  • Management of all code related activities (code reviews,  version, documentation, etc) adhering to all internal client and industry accepted best practices
  • Management and expert understanding of the eTMF data model enabling the generation and delivery of standard and ad-hoc reporting for business
