Military Policeman
US Army
- I was drafted out of college into the US Army and they selected me to be a Military Policeman in Corrections. I was top of my class and quickly made E-5 (sergeant) I was stationed at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, where I worked with the maximum security prisoners for the Army and Air Force. The USDB, as it was called, incarcerated approximately 1000 to 1500 prisoners who’s crimes were anything from Drugs to Murder. I worked almost every wing and every duty as a guard. When I was promoted to E-5 status, I was made in charge of the prison wing at Munson Army Hospital. I received an honorable discharge. I returned to college and graduated from California State University at Northridge with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education.

- I have been working as an Instructor of Commercial Painting here at LA County Jails largest Facility for about ten years (2010 to 2020). I have had great success in teaching the inmates painting and construction skills in the classroom and in the field. The majority of inmates who have taken the course have received construction certificates scoring high in their comprehension tests of trade knowledge. My goal is to have great alternative work for them to learn and use in the outside world. It works!

- California State Licensed Contractor - 1987 to present. I started in the construction business in 1966 as a high school laborer for my football coaches. They remodeled homes in the summer break. I quickly learned that I wanted to make the money myself, so I did painting and construction on the side while going to school. I got my California State license in 1987, and built McBride Painting Co., Inc.. We are still growing and profitable after 27 years. My son Ryan McBride now runs the company in my stead.
