SUMMARY: Supervise security/control activities and staff in an assigned area, which provides for maximum facility coordination in prisoner supervision and safety, in addition to the preparation of required records and reports.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities are:
• Assists in the development and implementation of policies, procedures and regulations for custody, security and/or treatment of detainees/inmates.
• Responds to major unusual occurrences. Facilitates prompt and appropriate assistance to detainees/inmates in the event of injury, illness or emotional trauma.
• Promotes an atmosphere conducive to personality and character development of detainees/inmates and staff through the encouragement of favorable behavior patterns, arrangement of physical facilities, and influencing relationships among detainees/inmates.
• Directs the work of other employees. This includes the selection, hiring, evaluating job performance, employee training/development, promoting and any disciplinary action, including termination.
• Makes assignments, reviews post orders and assures that all procedures including emergency procedures are in place and staff is trained in proper implementation.
• Reviews disciplinary matters concerning both staff and detainees.
• Reviews staff effectiveness and conducts frequent physical inspections of the facility to ensure compliance with policies and procedures.
• Gives primary guidance on situational problems; making referrals for more complex problems.
• Prepares records and reports as assigned by management. Maintains daily logs as required.
• Responsible for attaining facility goals/objectives and ensuring compliance with all rules, regulations, policies and/or procedures for security operations.
• Directs work, provides training and performs inspections of work performed by detainee/inmate staff. May provide detainee supervision and security in other areas as needed.

Summary: Responsible for all security and control related functions during duty shift per management instructions. Seeks to provide maximum facility coordination in detainee supervision and safety.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supervises all security functions during shift as assigned by management.
- Supervises the feeding of inmates/detainees during mealtime.
- Makes routine inspections of all security equipment, doors, gates, fences, lighting systems, and other facility equipment as needed.
- Assists staff with unit counts.
- Reviews reports written by officers during shift and ensures these reports are submitted as required.
- Assures that officers receive on-the-job training and safety training as required.
- Inspects or directs work to inspection of perimeter to test alarm systems, detect safety hazards and to ensure safety rules are posted and enforced.
- Assists officers and staff with unruly inmates and other assignments as required. Investigates and reports causes of inmate/detainee disturbances.
- Responds to major unusual occurrences as trained. Facilitates prompt and appropriate assistance to detainees/inmates in the event of injury, illness or emotional trauma.
- Directs work, provides training and performs inspections of work performed by inmate/ detainee workers. Assures that inmate/detainee workers under security supervision receive safety training.
- Provides management with input into decisions concerning employee performance ratings, disciplinary actions, and job assignments.

Maintain custody, care and control of detainees, monitor detainee activities and enforce Policies and Procedures. Supervise detainees in living quarters, in various activities (Visitation, Medical, Yard, religious services and others) to assure their continuous safety and secure custody. Instruct and supervise detainees in carrying out sanitation duties to ensure a continuous clean and sanitary appearance of the total facility but especially the various living areas. Observe detainee behavior and act on noted violations of established institution rules and regulations by writing incident reports and disciplinary action documents describing the facts of a violation. Search living areas and other assigned locations. Communicate with detainees to give instructions and listen to their expressions of complaint or problem identification and act on those within Officer control or refer problems/complaints to appropriate other departments (supervisors). Provide appropriate counseling or feedback after carefully listening to articulated problems. Using training provided, Observe for signs of suicidal tendencies and immediately report and such observations. Accept, review and resolve verbal detainee grievances informally if possible. Maintain security of all keys and equipment assigned an relinquish custody of such keys and equipment as prescribed by policy and procedure. Count detainees at prescribed count times according to Policy and Procedures and Record an report count results. Read and understand policy, procedure and Post Orders for all posts. Check all persons entering departing or moving in the facility to determine that they are authorized to enter and/or depart. Maintain safety of assigned work area by checking all equipment. Respond to escape emergencies. Respond to fire, hostage and natural disaster emergencies/drills. Responsible for maintaining and updating the logs, forms for the assigned post.
