As a shark safety diver, providing guests with a safe and enjoyable experience in the water with sharks was very rewarding. Tasks including handling lines and fenders, assisting captain with mooring lines and bouy, giving guests detailed safety briefings before every single dive as well as educational briefings on sharks and different species and behaviors. Also, safely helping guests enter and exit water and redirecting sharks in the water to keep them from coming to close. After, assisting captain with docking and daily wash-downs of 38’ boat.
My role as a captain and safety diver with Netzero Expeditions consisted of several duties such as boat prep and safety briefings before each charter, Educating guests on wildlife during pelagic offshore trips, and keeping guests safe during in water interactions with blue sharks and mako sharks. Working as a dock hand at a boat club came with several tasks such as daily upkeep of 11 different boats ranging from 24’-31’. This included wash-downs, deck scrubbing, waxing, polishing, rust removal, fueling, and pump outs. This role also came providing great customer service to members, and assisting them before and after outings.
Three years experience on 85’ whale watching vessel guiding whale watch tours for up to 120 guests. Some of my tasks in this role consisted of daily morning provisioning of food and drinks before charters, safety briefings, guiding entire tour and speaking on microphone about whales, dolphins, and other wildlife spotted during tours. After tours extensive cleaning of vessel consisting of wash downs, scrubbing deck, cleaning heads, restocking items, and vacuuming interior. Also assisted with docking and line handling before and after tours.
35’ vessel with up to 25 guests running 3 charters each day to a snorkel spot off Honolulu, HI. Line handling, fenders, assisting in guidance from in the water to locate moorings. As a deckhand duties also consisted of serving drinks and fresh cut fruit and snacks to guests, fitting them into fins, masks/snorkels, and life jackets, safety briefings, and locating wildlife in the water for them during snorkeling excursions. Extensive maintenance and cleaning of vessel and snorkel gear daily.
Deckhand aboard 24’ Seafox and 26’ Boston whaler for whale watching charters. Smaller, intimate tours for a more up close experience with various wildlife offshore. Line handling, answering questions throughout trip for guests, capturing photos and videos on professional cameras and drones for guests and social media content.
