- Once I graduated nursing school, I was transitioned into a nurse resident position where I worked directly alongside the RN and performed all nursing tasks as an RN would under their guidance. I became competent in working with peripheral IV lines, midlines, PICC lines and implantable ports. This position taught me to put the fundamentals of nursing into practice in the clinical setting which allowed me to practice the basic nursing skills while working with the RN’s of the unit. This prepared me to have my own assignment of patients while also allowing me to revise for my NCLEX examination. During my time in this position, I was checked off on all basic nursing tasks and skills and I was ready for my own patient assignment upon passing the NCLEX.
