Summary

I was employed by the State of California (Department of the Highway Patrol (CHP) and served throughout the State, in numerous regions i.e., Southern California, Central San Joaquin Valley, CHP Academy and the Bay Area. On two separate occasions, the Stockton Area Command Staff nominated me as the Department’s - Officer of the Year in the Stockton Field Office.

As a Road Patrol Officer, for nearly 20 years, I served the citizens of the State by providing the highest level of Safety, Service and Security to the public. I began my career as a Patrol Officer and ultimately was promoted to the role of the Stockton Area’s Public Affairs Officer (PAO).

My hard work ethic and Spanish language skills resulted in me being assigned to the Department’s Drug Interdiction Task Force. While on this detail, designed to proactively seek out illegal drug couriers that utilized the State’s Transportation System (Highways & Interstates), I was instrumental in seizing numerous illegal drug shipments. My largest seizure was a single load of 26 Kilos of Cocaine, which I discovered in a hidden compartment of the vehicle, being utilized by the Mexican Drug Cartel.

In 2003, my hard work ethic, enabled me to attend and successfully graduate from the Department’s nationally recognized Motorcycle Enforcement Training Program (METP). For the next 10 years, I worked as a Motor Officer, in an extremely challenging environment (Stockton, California) of the San Joaquin Valley. During that period, I enhanced my skillset in proactive traffic enforcement, which ultimately resulted in me being selected as a member of the Division’s - Protective Service Detail.

In 2012, I was selected, from a large field of statewide candidates, after nearly a year’s long series of interviews and testing, as a Motorcycle Instructor at the CHP’s Training Academy in Sacramento, California. During my three-year assignment, I taught numerous training courses, to law enforcement officers in the safe and proactive operation of motorcycle enforcement tactics to both Departmental and allied agency personnel (State and out of state) agencies.

In 2015, I successfully passed the promotional examination for Sergeant and spent the next year serving in the capacity of Acting Supervisor, in the Stockton Field Office. The following year, I promoted to Sergeant and was assigned to the Hayward Area Field Office. I worked there, for the next 5 years, prior to retiring in 2021.

As a supervisor, my primary role was that of a Field Sergeant, overseeing the daily operation of the Area’s Road Patrol personnel. As a dedicated professional, my strengths were in working in fast-paced environments, by effectively using time management skills to the fullest. My duties also included a high level of administrative duties, focusing on organization development, with diligent attention directed to critical/time sensitive information/investigations.

My five-year supervisory assignment, in the Bay Area, involved a heavy focus on proactively combatting nightly side show events, freeway shootings and countless protests, which oftentimes, elevated to uprisings and riots throughout the greater San Francisco/Oakland/San Jose Regions.

My Motorcycle Enforcement supervisory background resulted in my direct involvement in the Division’s PSD Detail, on both the planning and implementation of escorting high-profile dignitaries from throughout the world. We were additionally tasked with escorting the local collegiate and professional (MLB – NBA – NFL) sports teams throughout the greater bay area. One of my greatest honors was being selected to take part in the NFL’s Superbowl 50 escorts at Levi Stadium.
