Supervises security staff; monitors and provides protection and security for hospital buildings and premises, and for associates, patients, and visitors. Assists with managing of the daily operations of the Security Department. Patrols hospital property, responds to calls for assistance, and reports on conditions, objects or persons which may impact the security and/or safety of patients, associates, physicians, visitors, or vendors, and responds according to established policies, procedures and regulations.
Develops and contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to system and department policies, procedures, quality standards and safety standards. Ensures compliance with hospital/facility policies and procedures and governmental/accreditation regulations.
Assists in selecting, training, orienting, and assigning department staff. Develops standards of performance, evaluates performance, and conducts performance management planning. Initiates or makes recommendations for personnel actions. Maintains ongoing communication with office staff to review programs, provide feedback, discuss new developments, and exchange information. Acts as a resource and mentor to security staff. Conducts in-service training as necessary.
Conducts foot security patrols of hospital buildings and grounds, as required. Observes and monitors conditions, objects, or persons which might require police action. Controls access to and inspects packages of those leaving buildings. Reports all safety, security, and law violations.
Immediately responds to emergencies to provide necessary assistance to employees and customers. Responds to security and medical code calls.
Monitors camera surveillance system. Monitors conduct of patients and visitors on hospital premises; confronts unauthorized persons for questioning as needed.
Proficient in and utilizes nonviolent crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques to ensure staff, patients, visitors and all others remain safe, calm and respected while onsite. Testifies at legal proceedings, hearings and trials.
When responding to circumstances where the exercise of SPO authority may be required, takes appropriate measures to secure the scene, preserve evidence, detain and secure suspected criminal perpetrators, and assist responding law enforcement authority as directed by Director. Completes written reports and when subpoenaed or requested, notifies Legal Counsel for MedStar of same and gains guidance to testify at legal proceedings, hearings and trials.

Investigates reported violations of criminal law and hospital policy occurring on the campus. Prepares incident reports, investigative reports and other documents. Conducts follow-up investigations in an attempt to resolve previous incidents. Reviews incident reports submitted by others for completeness and accuracy. Maintains complete, concise and accurate records of all security investigations and actions. Completes these activities in a timely manner.
Monitors security activities to ensure secure and safe conditions for associates, patients, and visitors and to protect hospital buildings, assets, and premises. May assist in conducting foot and vehicle patrols of the premises; report safety, fire and security violations. Interacts with law enforcement and fire authorities regarding violations on the property as necessary. Readily provides assistance to internal and external customers; escorts individuals as needed by foot or by vehicle. May assist in restraining individuals when warranted.
Participates in meetings and on committees and represents the department and hospital in community outreach efforts. Participates in multi-disciplinary quality and service improvement teams.

Ensures a safe and secure environment for the College community as well as facilitating the efficient and safe execution of College functions and activities. Contacts and interactions vary and may involve multiple constituencies such as first responders from outside agencies (police/fire), members of the College community, students, vendors and the public, for the purpose of providing information, service and assistance.
*Patrols campus parking lots and surrounding grounds/facilities, noting dangers (potential and existing), defects or violations.
*Enforces parking policies through issuance of parking tickets and towing of vehicles when necessary.
*Observes, identifies and responds to safety and security incidents and situations, as well as acts as a deterrent to crime and other unlawful activity by providing high visibility throughout the campus.
*Responds to emergencies and suspicious activity, investigates incidents and prepares reports.
*Conducts thorough security and safety checks of assigned College facilities, to include checking for open doors, windows, and/or other unsafe conditions.
*Documents violations of College policies and completes incident reports.
*Responds to complaints/calls related to possible criminal activity, coordinate with applicable authorities if necessary, and prepare incident reports.
*Investigates complaints made by faculty, staff, or students on campus.
*Locks and unlocks campus buildings and offices as necessary as well as lockdown of campus buildings during emergency conditions and campus closings.
*Controls personnel/visitor access and tracks activities where applicable.
*Responds to emergency calls for assistance, including medical emergencies.
*Administers first aid and/or call for additional assistance as needed.
*Work closely with outside agencies (police and fire) on matters relating to the safety and security of the College community.
*To provide safety and security services, protecting customers, personnel and property by
enforcing the laws and policies of MedStar Montgomery Medical Center.
*Monitors hospital CCTV system, alarm systems and communication equipment, dispatching
*Implements hospital access control procedures at hospital entrances.
*Responds to emergency calls, making initial assessments of situations using tact, diplomacy and
judgment.
*Resolves violent and potentially violent situations.
*Provides security and protection to hospital, patients, visitors, staff and customers by patrolling areas
*Supervise the work of a correctional facility unit comprised of multiple posts staffed by 14-18 subordinate supervisory and non-supervisory Correctional Officers who maintain security, custody, care, and control of inmates within the unit.
*Maintain ongoing awareness of the make-up of the inmate population and potential for problems within the unit.
*Conducts and/or supervises the conduct of inmate counts, inspections (i.e., security, safety, maintenance, and sanitation), shakedowns, and security measures related to meeting inmate needs (i.e., visiting, feeding, canteen, bedding and clothing exchange, etc.)
*Prepares and submits reports concerning unusual incidents occurring during a shift; reviews written reports of shift members for accuracy, clarity and content; initiates action to resolve inmate request/grievances; forwards unresolved grievances to supervisor.
*Conducts uniform inspections of officers.
*Participates regularly in decisions or actions regarding officers within assigned unit on a variety of personnel matters involving selection, orientation, training, performance appraisal, transfer, counseling, minor disciplinary measures, or adjustments of minor complaints; maintains personnel records and documentation (i.e., performance evaluations, pay sheets, leave records, training records, and awards); participates in development of departmental promotional exams; conducts interviews and assesses applicants for hire.
*Assigned to direct and monitor operations of Central Processing Unit which handles booking and processing of all adult individuals arrested for criminal activity and serious traffic offenses by law enforcement agencies; CPU activities include fingerprinting, photographing, identification, criminal history check, bond review, compilation and production of arrest report documents and checks for outstanding warrants.

*Recommends changes to operational and personnel procedures based on experience and problem areas encountered during daily operations.
*Skill in the use of specialized emergency, security and safety equipment and techniques (i.e., CPR/First Aid, self contained breathing apparatus, automatic external defibrillator, firearms, radio transmitter and codes, etc.)

*Makes the decision to activate ERT, if available.
*Reports to staging area to brief ERT members on incident.
*Develops tactical plan to restore control based on all available intelligence information.
*Orders ERT to: Assume tactical posture and Take control of the situation.
*Takes no further action until control of the scene is returned to him/her.
*Once control is restored, has full authority to conduct debriefing and to ensure that normal
operations of the facility are resumed.
*Collects and reviews all reports from all officers involved from the ERT Team Leader.
*Completes an investigative report of the incident.
*Forwards all reports to the ERT Commander.
*Works with the Administrative Captain and Deputy Warden of Custody and Security to
schedule Emergency Response Team officers and ensure proper coverage on each shift.

ERT.
*The ERT Commander and ERT Instructors plan and facilitate the training program and
schedule. A projected monthly training schedule is submitted to the Deputy Warden of
Custody and Security for approval.
*Maintains a record of ERT training sessions. This record includes copies of training schedules,
training outline, firearms qualification records and proficiency records of each team member.
Stand Gate duty by which controlling access to the Anacostia Naval Station, and the Washington Navy Yard, by checking ID's, and verifying authenticity and approved entry. Conducted White House ceremonies, as well as retirement ceremonies, conducted full honor funeral services for former, and current US Navy members. Conducted other security duties as assigned.
