As a region BMT-38 Inspector, I read and interpret plans, contracts, specifications, standard drawings, and special provisions for an understanding of the Construction Projects requirements to determine what is required for the BMT-38 (Summary of Material Test Reports). I do this by reviewing the final quantities against the material submitted by ALDOT Construction Project offices and county offices to ensure test reports, certifications or certified letters are accurate and present to cover the amount of materials used on the Construction Project. I review and check concrete mix designs and concrete cylinder breaks. I calculate and check worksheets submitted by construction project offices and county offices for the summary of adjusted tonnage for each asphalt pay item to ensure the Asphalt Design Mix, Air Voids, AC Content and Density were read and interpreted without errors. I also assist project offices locating any missing information and properly filling out the BMT-38 forms.

I also check Certifications Requested by ALDOT Construction Project offices and the county offices for having correct testing information, identification numbers, tonnage/product amount, and all the needed chemical and physical test reports. I Communicate with ALDOT personnel and contractors when any of the information submitted is inaccurate or incomplete to obtain accurate information. Once all needed information is submitted, I enter the certifications into CAMMs to be processed for approval by Montgomery personnel.

I compare Independent Assurance and Acceptance Test Results (IAS&T) to determine if comparisons of borrow excavation results, roadbed processing, limestone stabilization, crushed aggregate base, plant mixes, core densities, guardrail galvanization, and concrete strength are within ALDOT’s requirements. I go to job sites and supervise testing procedures to ensure compliance with state standards.

As a region Assistant Aggregate Technician, I inspect all Aggregate Sources in the East Central Region/Birmingham Area. All aggregate plant inspections include, but not limited to; checking the producer’s equipment, running a comparison sample (to check for accuracy in the numbers the Aggregate Plant Technician receives against the test results I acquired), and insure aggregate samples are in accordance with ALDOT specifications. I check the BMT-91’s (test results performed on the aggregate) to ensure the aggregate is within ALDOT’s specifications and properly represents the tonnage sent to each Construction Project. I also collect the quarterly aggregate comparison samples and perform annual reevaluations on all fifteen quarries in the East Central Region/Birmingham Area.

As a region Assistant Precast Products Technician, I inspect all Precast Plants in the East Central Region/Birmingham Area. All precast plant inspections include, but not limited to checking the producer’s equipment, checking on proper storage of the precast items, and to ensure no physical damage or deformities is present on any of the precast products. I also check the BMT-72’s, BMT-53’s, and BMT-47’s (the shipping reports and inspection reports) to ensure the precast products are properly accounted for and did not sustain any damage in transport to cause the product to be unusable.

In the concrete lab, I label and place concrete cylinders into the curing room (a moisture-controlled room that helps concrete cure). I also break concrete cylinders to receive results for the concrete’s strength and record the fracture and stress at break. In the soils testing lab, I assist in running test such as but not limited to; soils analysis, proctor density (PD), laboratory vibrated density (LVD), and hydrometer test (Particle size analysis). Assist in the collection of roadway core samples by interpreting road maps and station numbers to determine where to obtain roadway core samples by using a coring drill rig.

As our Radiation Safety Officer I perform the bi-annual leak test on all nuclear gauges in the West Central Region/Tuscaloosa Area. Distribute new nuclear badges to all required personnel throughout the Tuscaloosa Area. I also teach the Radiation Safety Refresher classes and review all tests and paperwork filled out to renew personal radiation certification.
