As I strongly go through the sector of mental health, I found myself working with children and their families as a service coordinator/ case manager. This opportunity allowed me to see how much mental health guidance the youth and their families need. Also, it allowed me to advocate for them educationally, emotionally, and give mentorship. I have had direct experience working with clients who were suffering from traumas and domestic violence, whether they were adults or children. Working as a case manager in an adult day program, I had the opportunity to group counsel people throughout the day, allowing me to hear how they coped with different traumas that they had faced throughout their lives, and to find things that they could do to cope with the traumas that they experienced. Additionally, when I was working at a child guidance center, I had to conduct intakes before a child could participate in the program. Therefore, I needed to get to know a lot about their backgrounds to be in a position to help them and their families to the best extent possible. I am Currently being granted the opportunity to begin my journey in Clinical psychology by obtaining my master's at Walden University. This will allow me to broaden my knowledge in the field and gain more hands-on experience when it comes to furthering my career.
