Serves as Firefighter assigned to a crew engaged in airfield, crash-rescue, structural firefighting, and Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) Operations while assisting in reducing and/or eliminating potential fire hazards and reacting to the presence or potential releases of hazardous materials as a first responder to protect persons, property, or the environment

  • Performs as a firefighter to protect life and property in response to all types of fires and other emergencies, including burning structures, small and fixed wing with some larger aircraft, hazardous material such as fuel, ammunition, and poisonous chemicals
  • Obtains training and remains capable of responding to a wide range of threats associated with weapons of mass destruction
  • Duties require quick determination of action and follow through to reduce or prevent life and/or property losses
  • Unreels, lays, and connects hose lines, operates charged lines, portable and stationary firefighting equipment
  • Ventilates buildings requiring knowledge of interior wall locations and potential hazardous materials, fuel tanks, etc.
  • Shuts down structural utility systems, vehicle, or aircraft engines
  • Rescues occupants by evacuation or extraction methods
  • If first on the scene, stabilizes and prepares victims for transport by medical personnel

  • Some of the basic life support duties include initial and on-going patient assessment and physical examinations, determination of priority of patient care based on assessment findings; takes, records, and monitors patient(s) baseline vital signs including temperature, blood pressure, and pulse; splints and immobilizes fractures and dislocations for transport; employs a variety of established emergency medical techniques, methods, and equipment to stabilize the patient for transport as soon as possible to the receiving facility; uses and maintains care of emergency equipment such as backboards, suction devices, monitors, splints, oxygen delivery systems, and stretchers; assists patient in taking emergency medications for certain complaints; attempts to ascertain whether the patient has preexisting medical problems and to obtain a comprehensive drug history from the patient that includes the names, strength, and dosage of drugs taken by the patient; establishes communication with the receiving facility, providing all patient information including estimated time of arrival; prepares appropriate and relevant patient care documentation and reports to ensure medical requirements are met and accurately reported
