Oversee and directly supervise daily operations of custodial staff, ensuring buildings are cleaned and maintained to high standards in approximately forty-eight (48) buildings and two-hundred (200) plus custodial employees
- Develop and implement cleaning schedules ensuring optimal coverage and efficiency
- Train new staff members on proper cleaning procedures and safety protocols
- Manage inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment, ordering replacements as needed
- Conduct regular inspections to ensure compliance with cleaning protocols and identify any areas in need of improvement
- Implement and oversee work schedules for custodial staff to ensure efficient cleaning and maintenance of facilities
- Establish and maintain safety standards for facilities work activities and ensure proper use of chemicals and equipment in facilities maintenance and landscaping activities
- Responsible for 24/7 building security at all Akron Public School locations including: establishing and maintaining security requirements, securing and managing security service contracts and personnel to ensure the safety and security of buildings, employees and visitors; respond to building alarms, acts as the emergency contact person during off hours, establish and coordinate emergency preparedness plans at all locations
- Experience in negotiating and working with external service providers, establishing contracts, delegating cleaning tasks to team members
- Assist in the preparation of preliminary budgets for the purpose of recommending new and replacement equipment purchases
- Coordinate the scheduling of temporary custodial workers for the purpose of ensuring that daily cleaning is completed
- Develop standards for the purchase of custodial supplies and equipment in coordination with the purchasing department for the purpose of ensuring quality control and standardization within the district
- Evaluate custodial employee and other staff for the purpose of promoting professional growth and ensuring adherence to district employment standards
- Keep records of operations in conformance with District and State policies for the purpose of developing and submitting reports, as required
- Prepare accident and injury reports, as needed, for the purpose of following district protocol
- Provide training and supervision for district custodial staff for the purpose of promoting efficient practices
- Repair custodial equipment, as needed, to ensure employees have the necessary equipment to complete daily job requirements
- Report safety hazards and repair needs to appropriate personnel for the purpose of ensuring safe facilities
- Manage inventory of cleaning supplies, equipment and materials to ensure adequate stock is available at all times
- Develop and implement training programs for custodial staff to enhance skills and maximize productivity
- Collaborate with other departments to coordinate special cleaning projects and support overall building operations
- Implemented a summer cleaning program that has significantly reduced overtime over the past four (4) years
- Negotiate contracts with other department heads for the Collective Bargaining Agreement for all Maintenance, Operations and Transportation employees
- Experience with contract grievances, mediation and arbitration
- Handle long-range District planning to support future needs and growth
- Assist with plans for renovations, additions and/or new buildings
- Review and approve estimates, purchase orders and invoices on daily basis
- Work with purchasing and operation teams in preparing Request for Proposal (RFP) and contract service-related vendors leveraging our national footprint (e.g., landscaping, fire systems, elevators, trash removal and parking lot maintenance)
- Design and maintain online asset database, cataloging equipment purchase date, serial number, model number and warranty information
- Knowledge of building management systems and work order software
- Initiating and imposing progressive discipline when and where applicable
