Thomas Prewett

Brazos Electric Cooperative is a company based out of Waco, Texas. In my job as an Apprentice lineman it is my job to learn the electrical system and how different types of machinery works and is utilized. This involves anything from setting transformers in substations to changing insulators on the line.

I had a great time working for PPL. But I felt I wanted to be closer to home. It gave me a lot of experience and knowledge with different tools. Also working with people that I normally wouldn’t come into contact with. My job was maintenance on a distribution system.

• Dug holes and trenches to position fences correctly.
• Conducted site inspections to determine project costs and required installation materials.
• Filled post holes with concrete to maintain proper stability and longevity of fencing installations.
• Ground off imperfections before and after completing welds.
• Complied with OSHA regulations and company safety standards to promote worksite safety, protect team members and prevent equipment damage.

• Completed welding projects using gas tungsten arc, gas metal arc, flux-cored arc, plasma arc, and shielded metal arc equipment.
• Utilized blueprints and diagrams to compare finished products against design specifications.
• Operated hoists, cranes, and power tools to dismantle equipment to find and remove defective parts.
• Dismantled constructing scaffolding, bracing and other temporary structures for construction sites.

• Worked alongside team to accomplish work goals according to schedule.
• Loaded, unloaded, and moved material to and from storage and production areas.
• Understood and followed verbal and written instructions to complete work correctly.
• Used measuring tools such as gauges and tape measure to identify conforming parts during production.
• Utilized construction tools and machinery to effectively complete job site projects.
