May of 2024 will be four years that I have been a certified nursing assistant. My background in healthcare is extensive as I have been in healthcare for over a decade. I became the caretaker of my great grandparents at twelve years of age. I continued further down the healthcare path in high school when I attended David Williams Jr. Career and Technical Center serving in the Health Occupational Students of America. Now I am preparing to graduate May 2024 as a licensed practical nurse to further my career in serving others and providing excellent patient care.
As a nursing assistant for Shiftkey I travel to communities in need to provide care for patients. I've worked at nursing homes, assisted living facilities and mental health hospitals. My job entails establishing a rapport with patients, assisting with ADLS's, ensuring patient safety at all times, maintaining cleanliness of patient's rooms and work environment, and communicating with the nurse to meet the patient's needs.
At Baptist I worked as a float pool patient care assistant where I gained great experience working in a hospital setting. I've worked in an outpatient setting, med-surg, ICU, ICU step down, and ER. During my time at Baptist I learned to think on my feet and to always be attentive because a patient's status could change at any moment. My job entailed obtaining vital signs, assisting the nurse in skin assessments and dressings, ensuring patient safety, monitoring and recording intake and output, and prepping patients for surgery/ procedures.
The Goldton at Southaven was my first job after I received my CNA license. At this facility I learned how to be an efficient healthcare worker. I worked in collaboration with dietary staff, nurses, occupational therapists, and family to meet the resident's needs. Most of time included caring for residents, assisting with ADL's, showering/ bathing residents, maintaining a clean and safe environment, and encouraging and assisting with participation in activities.
