Dynamic Certified Surgical Technologist with extensive experience working in Level 1 trauma centers, excelling in orthopedic and general trauma surgery. Proven track record in training new staff and enhancing surgical efficiency. Adept in surgical instrumentation and committed to maintaining professionalism and ethics in high-pressure environments. I am a very energetic and enthusiastic teammate. I treat my coworkers with respect and am always willing to learn from them. I believe we are never too old to learn and my goal is to learn something new everyday. As for my patients, I treat each one as an individual and as I would care for my own family member. Helping my team perform the best patient care is ultimately my top priority.
I am currently a traveling CST for this company. I have been on several assignments since September 2021.
I worked as a CST at UNC Ambulatory Surgery Center. I scrubbed orthopedic surgery; sports medicine, foot and ankle and hand surgery. I also scrubbed ENT surgery; cochlear implants, mastoidectomy cases, sinus surgery and general ENT cases. At this facility I scrubbed general surgery and plastic surgery cases as well. I helped with keeping count of inventory for my specialties and making sure special items were ordered in time for cases. I received multiple awards for precepting and trained most of the new hire surgical techs and students that rotated through our facility during their training.
This facility was an ambulatory surgery center. Here I was one of the lead techs for opthalmology/cataract cases. My responsibilities were making sure that the correct IOL's for each case were ordered and when received, I insured they were within date and placed in each case cart. I also scrubbed orthopedic cases ranging from sports medicine to hand and foot and ankle. ENT was also a prominent specialty here. I scrubbed a lot of sinus surgeries, T&A, myringotomies and mastoidectomy cases. This facility definitely taught me speed. Not only did I hone my skill at this facility, I learned the importance of specific patient care and how each case, though the same surgery, is completely different depending on many circumstances.
I was a private scrub for a maxillofacial surgeon. When in the office I assisted him in full mouth extractions, complex impacted wisdom teeth extractions and alveoloplasty. In the OR we did surgery primarily on bone cancer of the mandible where we would remove the affected areas and place implants to the remaining bone.
Received the preceptor award multiple times while working at UNC Health for training new employees and students
