Accomplishments

  • Participated in preparations for our agency’s house appropriations hearing including memorizing the body of work produced during the most recent fiscal period and planned for the upcoming fiscal period. Attended the hearing and provided information to the front office necessary to respond to congressional requests because of that hearing.
  • Made updates to and published, for use by the organization, templates for performing inspections and documenting independence requirements, in accordance with the revised Quality Standards for Inspections and Evaluations.
  • Represented the Office of Audit in organizational wide efforts to update the management challenges report for the entire OIG as well as to achieve organizational alignment with data that feeds from our back-end systems to publicly facing dashboards.
  • Since March 2020, I led the unit in its issuance of 9 engagement reports containing 11 combined findings and 23 recommendations to improve the operations of USDA programs, including implementing grants management controls to ensure awards comply with federal regulations, improving the accuracy of improper payment reporting in the accompanying material to the financial statements and increasing transparency with the public when the statuses of programs change.
  • Despite being the smallest audit unit, we have issued as many as or more engagements than units twice our size. These results include monetary results totaling more than $302 million. Since I have become the Director of the unit, we have issued reports that include $302 million monetary recommendations which resulted in a return on investment of of $158 for every dollar invested in this unit.

This program focuses on bringing together high-performing GS-14s and 15s across the government to obtain training on leadership and work collaboratively on projects designed to tackle critical issues agencies face. The project completed by my group resulted in a redesigned Intranet by USDA OIG that is currently in operation.
