PIH Downey

  • Completion of 50 hours in the Dietary Department. Duties included assisting with trayline, meal tickets, and clarifying diets of patients.
  • PIH Downey Health Fair, 2014. Duties included providing the community with nutrition education, based on the patients' results from the screening at the fair. Topics included were diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, anemia, and general nutrition. The information was provided in English and Spanish.


Inland Christian Home, 2012.

  • Completed 40 hours in the Dietary Department. Duties included prepping food, drinks and carts for breakfast and lunch meals. Serving and tending to the needs of the elderly residents during meal time including pouring coffee, drinks, and bringing condiments. Keeping the residents company and having conversations during mealtimes was also a priority.


Internship Volunteer Rotations 2012:

  • WIC Farmers Market, Farmers Market: Setup and clean-up tents at local farmers markets. Distributed farmers market vouchers to WIC participants and provided instructions to the community on how to use them. Instructed Farmers Market participants within the community bilingual nutrition classes and conducted cooking demonstrations that supported learning.

  • Special Olympics - Healthy Athlete : Duties included working with podiatry students in the FitFeet tent and the second day in the Health Promotion tent. A Healthy Athlete works to provide free health screenings in a fun and welcoming environment as part of the Special Olympics' global movement to change the lives of people with intellectual disabilities. Volunteered to dress up as a banana to make a lasting impact on children and their families.


White Memorial Medical Center 2009-2012

  • Healthy Eating Lifestyle Program Instructor (HELP): Pediatric obesity management program consists of a six week, two hour classes for children aged 5-12 years old and their families within the community. Duties included setting up and facilitating classes in both English and Spanish in fun and interactive environment. Anthropometrics including weight, height, BMI, and measurements were obtained pre and post program participation. Performed grocery store tours and cooking demonstrations for approximately 15-20 people in each session. Developed and integrated nutrition education, activities and cooking demonstrations for better understanding and integration of learning.
  • WMMC Bank of America Career Pathway Intern: Completed 120 hours in the Emergency Room. Assisted in restocking supplies in the ER, assisting Nursing Staff with various tasks, assisting patients, and other clerical work.
  • Co-facilitator of Cardiac Rehab/Senior Wellness Nutrition: Co-facilitated and translated the nutrition group classes alongside tenured Registered Dietitians to the community members and outpatient population.
