Summary

Hello! My name is Tim Garcia and I am excited to be connecting with your team about the opportunity to serve as a Principal and leader within your organization! My passions, experience and vision aligns me directly with the principles, mission and vision.

My life's purpose is to love, care for, serve, support, value and protect people, especially those who are vulnerable. I have understood and applied this from a very young age. This calling led me into the United States Marine Corps, civilian law enforcement, teaching, coaching and serving as a public school principal. These experiences have allowed me to develop highly effective skills when it comes to leadership and management.

While in the United States Marine Corps, I served as an MP, lead the Substance Abuse Counselor's Office drug lab, and served at the American Embassy in London and Islamabad as a member of the Marine Security Guard Battalion. I received two Navy Achievement Medals for leadership and was honorably discharged.

I served in civilian law enforcement in La Vista, NE and Tilden, NE. My experience as the Community Liaison Officer allowed me to connect with business and community leaders, alike and allowed me to spend time in schools and around education (which has always been my goal). I wanted to be more involved in the school setting and became a DARE and GREAT certified instructor as well as earning my School Resource Officer certification. I also served as the Chief of Police for the small Nebraska community of Tilden while volunteer coaching at the high school, working on the farm and attending Wayne State College to become a teacher and coach.

I served as the 4th and 5th grade health and PE teacher at Central Elementary School, the head boys basketball coach and assistant varsity football coach with McCook Public Schools for 7 years. I served as the AP at Central Elementary School for 6 of those years before being the opportunity to serve as the principal at McCook Elementary, a PK-3 school with approximately 430 students and 50 staff members. McCook Elementary is a Title I school in the poorest county in the state of Nebraska. In year 3 of my 5 year tenure, our team was recognized with a National Blue Ribbon Award after our more than 97% of our students achieved or exceeded benchmark in literacy and 92% in math on the state assessment. The following year those numbers were 96% and 90%, respectively. I also served as the Crisis Team Leader and Title I coordinator for the school system. I was honored to represent our team in being selected as the New Principal of the Year by the Nebraska Association of School Administrators.

That brings me to currently serving as the principal at Red Hawk Elementary School in SVVSD in Erie for the past 8 years. With an enrollment surpassing 650 students PK-5 during this tenure, our team as consisted of up to 65 total staff members. Our team has earned the John Irwin Award of Excellence, been recognized as a U.S. News World Report BEST Public Elementary Schools and achieved a school all time high SPF score of 89. These achievements are magnified as we were identified as a Dyslexia Incubator School within our system and have families join us specifically for our literacy support and specialized strategies and instruction. What I am most proud of after our achievement is the positive climate and culture our team has developed at Red Hawk, as well as our parent involvement (approximately 1/3 of our staff are parents of current or former RHE students). We intentionally have strong relationships with Erie Police Department, our SRO's, and stay connected to Richard Peebles and Bob Johnson, our SVVSD Safety leaders. We are not a response/reactive oriented school, but a preventative/proactive school family where everyone is loved, cared for, served, supported, valued and protected.

Thank you for taking the time to ready my information. Please reach out if you have any questions. I look forward to meeting your team in the interview process and I am confident that if provided the opportunity, we will exceed the highest of expectations for this leadership opportunity and others.

With appreciation,

Tim Garcia
