Summary

I am a weather, climate, observations and fire weather specialist, recently retired from the National Weather Service. I have a B/A in Broadcast/Journalism, and have vast experience working with media partners in the New York City market. I have over 30 years' experience in broadcast Meteorology. I have over 38 years of weather forecast, observations and climate experience. I was the Observation Program leader at the NWS office, New York NY office for 15 years. As fire weather program leader, I was responsible for providing fire weather incident support to Federal and non-Federal officials. My weather career began in 1984 as a naval weather specialist. My four years of active duty were followed by 6 years of naval active reserve. During that time, I was hired by a NWS contractor as special aviation observer at Philadelphia. It was then, in 1994 when I was hired by NWS. My NWS career began in New York City. I was transferred to Newark NJ, before being hired for the Alaska region in Annette Island AK. After one year in Alaska, I was hired for the New York NY office in 1996. I was at the New York NY office up until my retirement in February 2023.

Weather, Climate, Observations and Fire Weather Specialist

National Weather Service

I served a vital role with the National Weather Service with the vast majority of time spent at the NWS office for New York City. With the largest constituency in the USA, these skills were utilized.

  • Anchored live weather segments during severe weather situations.
  • Posted daily weather information to social media platforms to keep public informed.
  • Utilized cutting-edge graphics to provide enjoyable and easy-to-understand forecasts for viewers.
  • Collected and updated meteorological information and data to develop weather forecasts and report current weather conditions.
  • Used weather balloons to measure wind, temperature and humidity in upper atmosphere.
  • Developed and presented long and short-range weather forecast information every day.

Observation Program Leader

NWS Office
  • Interpreted observations from upper atmosphere, land and sea to assess potential storm impacts and precipitation.
  • Managed the full array of observational platforms from space weather down to surface observations.
  • Prepared scientific atmospheric or climate reports, articles or texts.
  • Developed and presented long and short-range weather forecast information every day.
  • Maintained and operated sophisticated meteorological equipment, scientific instruments, technology and software.
  • Reviewed information from radar and satellite imagery, weather reporting agencies and air station observations to compile and analyze data for weather reports.
  • Researched impact of industrial projects or pollution on climate, air quality or weather phenomena.

Fire Weather Program Leader

  • Developed accurate fire weather forecasts by analyzing data and using mathematical models and physics to interpret collected information.
  • Researched and forecasted impact of prescribed fire activity projects including smoke dispersion.
  • Worked closely with Federal and non-federal officials on wildfire forecasts and behavior.

Naval Weather Specialist

  • Naval weather specialist on two amphibious ships serving onshore-stateside and abroad in most global environments across the northern hemisphere.
  • Reviewed information from radar and satellite imagery, weather reporting agencies and air station observations to compile and analyze data for weather reports.
