Work History

Sales Manager

Island Dyes
01.2024 - Current
  • At Island Dyes I am responsible for anything and everything related to keeping a retail store functioning and profitable. Island Dyes is a small local business, and so relies heavily on repeat customers while utilizing a limited number of employees. To that end my main job is to be the face of the company, working alone or with a team to provide an experience that keeps customers coming back time and time again. I do this by being extremely personable, doing my best to relate to everyone who comes through our door, and assessing the best approach to take with them as individuals.
  • My job also includes all of the day to day maintenance of keeping a store running, including managing supply levels, communicating with all levels of management to avoid shortages of popular products, and helping form strategies to avoid infrastructural issues.
  • I've trained several new employees who all did well in our company
  • My time at Island Dyes is a little different than my previous job, you might be wondering what made me go from a high paced automotive sales environment to a smaller retail experience. The answer is that throughout 2023 I was unable to work due to severe health complications stemming from gastroparesis. When I had finally recovered enough to start working again, I wanted something low stakes so that I could transition back into the workforce in a way that wouldn't further complicate my health or create problems for my employers. I have greatly enjoyed my time at Island Dyes and have a wonderful relationship with my employers, but with my physical recovery more or less complete, I'm ready to do something bigger again.
  • Enhanced customer experience through effective product knowledge and personalized recommendations. Leveraged point-of-sale systems to process transactions accurately and efficiently. Developed strong relationships with customers, leading to increased repeat business. Collaborated with team members to achieve sales targets and improve store performance. Increased sales revenue by building strong rapport with customers and recommending appropriate products based on their needs. Managed conflict resolution with dissatisfied customers professionally, resulting in improved customer retention rates. Maintained accurate inventory records to ensure adequate stock levels, minimizing out-of-stock situations that could impact customer satisfaction. Analyzed sales trends to identify opportunities for product promotions and marketing strategies. Maintained calm demeanor and professionally managed issues in busy, high-stress situations.

Salesperson

Carlotz
08.2021 - 12.2022
  • I learned many, many things at Carlotz that I will carry with me going forward into any business. In short I was a licensed automotive salesmen, but a lot more goes into that than many might think. There's the obvious, quickly and securely building a trusting relationship with consumers to secure an individual major sale, the low end being around $20,000 per unit. That's not an easy relationship to build in an afternoon, and it requires you to both show a high level of competency in your job, and the social skills to demonstrate relatability and trustworthiness. Furthermore car sales these days are massively driven by online reviews, so it's not enough just to make a sale at any cost, I needed my customers to leave the store so happy that they wanted to tell everyone what a great experience they had.
  • My role involved much more than just walking out onto the lot and earning trust, making a sale, and getting a good review, I spent hours every day in our online systems looking for leads, I made dozens of calls and sent hundreds of emails per day to potential customers and individually handled all my own marketing within the company system, taking personal responsibility for customer accounts to create customers where none previously existed. I personally handled any and all legal and financial paperwork related to all of my deals, making sure everything was filed and sent off to the proper state agencies promptly to avoid complications for our customers and ourselves.
  • I was consistently the top salesman in our location, outpacing multiple employees who outranked me in both job title and pay, for the majority of my employment at Carlotz. I became the de facto employee for any "difficult" customers, such as those with language barriers or disabilities. In fact my biggest sale during my employment, which totaled roughly $70,000, was to a man who spoke very little English that my coworkers said was "impossible to work with." I used Google Translate and spoke to his children over the phone, staying late in order to make that sale. Another similar example was when I did business with a man who was hearing disabled, my coworkers shrugged their shoulders and said "nothing we can do," but I picked up my notepad and pen and got to work. The deal took longer than normal, but the customer left satisfied, and within a month I had a second customer with a hearing disability who had heard from the first that they should go to Carlotz and ask for Tim. About a half a year later I had a third hearing impaired customer who also came to us recommended.
  • To summarize, in my role as a car salesman I transitioned from being "a guy who knew a thing or two about sales and customers service," to an experienced, skilled salesperson, an expert customer service representative, and a diligent marketer who routinely brought in new business, created happy customers, and made enough daily sales to total anywhere from $20,000 on a slow day to $100,000+.

Sales Manager

Nancy's Nook
12.2017 - 07.2021
  • I was hired as a regular clerk at Nancy's Nook but it didn't take too long before I was running my own shifts. I learned quite a bit here, as it was the first job where I was given more responsibility in day to day business operation. In addition to all the standard retail management duties that you can imagine, I oversaw employees, ran the stores inventory, did market research on new products and built working relationships with suppliers over email. I learned a lot about how the back end of any business functions in my role at Nancy's Nook.
  • In addition this is where I perfected my people skills, I learned how best to work with customers of all different backgrounds and income levels, and really learned to treat my business as a "living entity" that customers form their own relationship with, a relationship that's vital to repeat business, which in my experience form the bulk of profits.
  • Assisted customers by finding items quickly to boost store satisfaction rates. Placed new merchandise on shelves and racks in appealing, organized arrangements to drive sales. Collaborated with team members to conduct market research and identify potential leads. Kept front check out area clean and organized for efficient service. Assisted in developing sales strategies to enhance customer engagement and satisfaction.

Delivery Driver

Amazon
07.2015 - 11.2017
  • Amazon Flex was an interesting experience where I mostly learned to have perfect timing and team work within a system where everyone has their own individual role. The delivery window for the program was incredibly narrow, and we had hundreds of packages per day to deliver, so to avoid potential issues we had to function as a well oiled machine.
  • Completed on-time deliveries by choosing best and most efficient routes. Operated vehicle safely in highly congested areas with no traffic violations. Completed rush deliveries on tight timetables to satisfy customer needs. Delivered packages to customer doorsteps and business offices.

Delivery Driver

Jimmy John's
02.2013 - 07.2015
  • Jimmy Johns is where I really bettered my customer service skills as a young man. When you deliver a product to someone and accept payment for it, in that moment you are the face of the company, and if you want to keep a customers business (and get tipped) you need to learn to be a customer service representative, addressing problems and complaints in real time in order to keep people happy and ready to order again.
  • Completed on-time deliveries by choosing best and most efficient routes. Operated vehicle safely in highly congested areas with no traffic violations. Completed rush deliveries on tight timetables to satisfy customer needs. Delivered packages to customer doorsteps and business offices.

Cook

Chik-Fil-A
06.2012 - 01.2013
  • This was my first job and bears little on anything I do today, but I include it for historical accuracy. Chik-Fil-A did teach me how to effectively manage time in a hectic fast paced environment, and it's where I cut my teeth with customer service, as keeping customers happy was a huge priority for the staff.
  • Prepared multiple orders simultaneously during peak periods with high accuracy rate, maximizing customer satisfaction and repeat business. Set up and prepared cooking supplies and workstations during opening and closing to maximize productivity. Changed and sanitized cutting boards, benches and surfaces between tasks to avoid cross-contamination. Took food orders from cashiers and cooked items quickly to complete order items together and serve hot.
