  • Ive done 3 seasons as a seasonal firefighter on the Alpine IA crew as well as a half season on the fuels crew, my first year I was an emergency hire/AD for 4 months (05/2022-09/2022). My second year I was a GS3 for 6 months (04/2023-09/2023 During my third season, I was a GS4 for 9 months (04/2024-12/2024).
  • I’m a qualified Firefighter Type 1 and Incident Commander Type 5.
  • Firefighter Type 2 duties. Performing daily vehicle and equipment maintenance checks. Daily physical training such as running, hiking, and weight lifting. Attending and participating in morning briefings. Making sure line gear is ready at all times. Making sure hand tools are sharp and ready for work. Wearing the correct PPE for the job. Perform fire suppression using hand tools and an ATV equipped with a water tank. Perform manual fire suppression tactics including digging fire line, hot spot cold trailing, igniting backfires, and mop up. Conduct routine patrols on district.
  • Qualified Firefighter Type 1 duties. Attend morning briefings on fires and effectively relaying information to crewmembers. Serve as lookout providing the crew and other adjoining resources with updates on fire activity and weather conditions. Take weather using belt weather kit or a kestrel and calculate probability of ignition. Participate in organized burning operations. Serve as point of contact for holding in a burn operation. Fill out and complete general messages for crew supply needs while on fires. Filling out crew time reports while on fires. Ensure coworkers are fit for duty keeping line gear, tools, and PPE are fire ready at all times. Ensure truck chores are complete each day including maintenance checks, cleaning truck windows, grabbing breakfast and lunches for crew each morning at camp and filling water jugs. Help coworkers with entering time correctly into paycheck 8 and keeping IQCS up to date. Demonstrate radio proficiency using different repeaters, programming frequencies, and using proper terminology. Assist first year firefighters teaching them different fire suppression tactics, how to maintain tools and help grow their knowledge on firefighting.
  • Qualified Incident commander Type 5 duties Assume a leadership role on fires and make timely decisions to suppress fires. Properly size up and report new fires to dispatch. Scout out and assess the necessary actions needed to suppress fires. Assign sire suppression tasks to individuals and groups based on fire activity. Mitigate risks including snags, thunderstorms, and the public while conducting fire suppression. Properly communicating to dispatch with size ups and updates on fires.
  • Participated on a saw team as a sawyer and swamper. Perform routine maintenance on chains and chainsaws. Bucking and felling.
  • Provided fire suppression and containment for wildland fires using hand tools, pumps, hoses and other equipment.
  • Conducted mop-up operations to extinguish remaining hot spots and reduce the risk of further spread.
  • Assisted in hazardous fuels reduction projects such as cutting brush, felling trees and chipping debris.
  • Performed backfire operations to contain advancing fires by burning fuel ahead of them.
  • Monitored weather conditions to determine potential impacts on fire behavior.
  • Utilized GPS systems to map out areas burned by wildfires and create accurate records of fire perimeters.
