While working at Heinen's, I worked in many different departments, mostly specializing in the Deli Department and Dairy Department. This was during the Covid pandemic, which created a unique environment and proposed many new challenges in the industry.
The Deli and Dairy Departments had many responsibilities, including:
- Experience in customer service. I assisted customers behind the counter with slicing, taking orders over the phone for catering, and helping customers with general questions about the store.
- Making sure product quality is upheld and tracking inventory.
- Assisting with food prep, such as the salad bar and prepared foods section.
- Keeping shelves stocked and tidy.
- Making sure the deli facility is clean and sanitized. This also involved cleaning the slicers when needed, while also keeping an eye on customers who may need help.
- Receiving shipments from Heinen's partners. In the Dairy department, this often meant hauling in large shipments of milk and frozen foods, often requiring work in sub-zero degree freezers for an elongated time.
