As a Transportation Operations Supervisor 1 at the Minnesota Department of Transportation, my job is to find work that needs to be done in our sub area, as well as assist the TOS 2 in prioritizing the jobs our sub area, first by safety, and then by need. It has been a challenge to get some of our work done with the shortage of available workers, but the work can be accomplished by joining together with other sub areas to complete jobs in all of the sub areas. I have run a spring sweeping operation, as well as helped sweep neighboring sub areas. I have run a snow and ice operation, including clean up operations, in several different sub areas. I am proficient at entering RCA and TAMS data as well as approving time and expenses.
Worked as Transportation Generalist Senior on Mendota Nights Maintenance Crew. In this position I was responsible for mentoring crew at various jobs, as well as entering data in RCA and TAMS. I also assisted in deciding a work plan for each shift, as well as assigning job duties and equipment to crew based on qualifications and abilities of each individual on the crew. Doing this promoted confidence in crew and encouraged growth through learning from one another. In my short time at Mendota, primary projects included plate beam guardrail and sweeping entire sub area.
Have worked for MnDot metro highway maintenance for 4 1/2 years. I have a class "A" CDL with air brakes, tanker, and doubles / triples endorsements. I am MnDot certified in tandem, level 2, 4 wheel articulating loader and snowblower, skid steer loader, tow plow, powered industrial truck, chainsaw, oxy-acetylene torch, and tractor with flail mowers as well as boom mower certified. I have supervised the crew as well as been a lead worker in S & I and I've mentored the crew in the Chaska Subarea for the last 5 months in several areas including, plowing snow, sanding, ice control and removal along with post storm cleanup operations. I've also been responsible for the stock piling, testing, and inventory of salt and liquid ice control products. I've supervised the operations of roadway surface bituminous patching, as well as restoring gravel shoulders, guard rail repair, high tension cable repair, fence repair, and other roadside safety feature repairs, all while providing proper traffic control and work zone safety. Have reported and repaired shoulder, and slope or drainage problems or hazards. Cleaned out drain culverts and other structures. Maintain, operate, and make minor repairs to equipment, including properly inspecting and cleaning of the equipment. Will soon be directing spring sweeping operation, including traffic control and work zone safety. I have experience in RCA, TAMS, and can locate through the Gopher 1 website. I've coordinated with the adopt a highway crews for locations, proper PPE, bags, and the removal of bags.
I started at MnDot August 28th, 2017, as a Transportation Generalist in the Chaska Subarea. I came to MnDot with a class "A" CDL, and 26 years of accident free commercial motor vehicle experience. I quickly attained all of the remaining required MnDot certifications, as well as many others including level 2, 4 wheel articulating loader, skid steer loader, single axle, tandem axle, powered industrial truck, chainsaw, oxy-acetylene torch, tractor with flails, boom mower, small tool, flagger training. Most recently, I have been blower, and tow plow certified also. I have worked for one summer on the mill and patch crew at the Maryland truck station and learned several different operations in the repair of bituminous surfaces. I also worked for one summer at the Golden Valley sign shop, where I spent most of the summer on the HBS4 crew painting markings on highways, turn lanes, and crosswalks. I also spent some time on the thermal crew, marking pavement as well. I can patch asphalt, repair fence, repair high tension cable, repair guardrail, pick trash, mowing ditches, and work in traffic control.
