Summary

As a Public Health: Community Health Promotion major with a minor in Psychology, I aim to cultivate proficiency in effective communication, organization, and critical thinking. I aim to gain substantial experience in engaging with peers and superiors to broaden my understanding. I aspire to leverage these skills in the future to contribute to the betterment of communities and drive positive transformation. I bring a strong foundation in public health, gained through my role as a peer health educator at Portland State University. This experience has allowed me to develop effective communication and educational skills, as well as the ability to engage with diverse communities on various health topics. Moreover, I have honed my organizational and project management skills through coordinating events and educational programs on campus.


My coursework in public health has provided me with a solid understanding of health equity, social determinants of health, and policy development, which I believe will be valuable in contributing to the internship projects. Moreover, my passion for serving underserved communities and promoting health equity drives my motivation to make a meaningful impact during the internship. EMPOWER Mentor

Multicultural Retention Service

  • The MRS Peer Mentors play a vital role in offering guidance, connection, support, and encouragement to first-year PSU students as they navigate campus life
  • Their primary focus is on fostering a sense of community and enhancing access to resources and services
  • In addition to working directly with their assigned mentees, mentors are also integral members of a leadership team responsible for organizing program and MRS community events and workshops
  • A time commitment of 3-5 hours per week is expected throughout the Fall, Winter, and Spring Terms
  • If selected, mentors will need to participate in Spring Enrichment Sessions, a Summer retreat, Fall MRS new student orientation, and a Connect program
  • They will also be required to engage regularly with mentees, plan events and activities for mentees, attend all relevant meetings, events, workshops, and study sessions, maintain and submit monthly mentor activity logs and quarterly mentor journal reflections, assist in program outreach events, and participate in other programs/events as assigned
