Internship

I completed a four and a half month internship at Footprints To Recovery in Elgin Illinois.  During this time I had the opportunity to work under the guidance of the family therapist where I learned to engage in treatment care for the patient along with his or her family member/family members while they are in treatment care from detox throughout transition care. On Tuesday evenings I helped run family night where we engaged family members along with their loved ones in treatment care while educating them about addictions, how this has affected both the patient as well as his or her family member(s), what to expect when he/she returns home, and ways they can help get their loved one through treatment care and on their road to sobriety. I worked with out the outpatient groups both in person and via the internet in the evenings for treatment care using a variety of modalities as well as completing urine drops for residents that don't stay in the outpatient treatment care center. During this time I also attended day classes where we educated patients about the use of drugs, how they affect their brain and other body parts, and how changing how they eat (nutritional education) nurtures both their brain functions and body as a whole.
