Two years ago I volunteered for my Track Coach's cross country meet at my High School, Mill Springs Academy. I was entrusted with the responsibility of making sure all the schools that were competing would have good parking. Thankfully it was a success, and I had a lot of fun contributing and volunteering for my school that day.
My interests are mainly sports I've been a really athletic kid since I was in fourth grade, and I didn't really get to display that until my freshman year of high school when I started doing Track and Field I really love music as well, and different types of types of it My favorite genres are mainly R&B, Hip Hop, and Pop music, and I would love to learn how to play an instrument one day
I also do
During my Freshman year, I started doing Track and Field, and it the was first sport that made the student athlete I am today. Accountability is a huge part of being a student-athlete. We get held accountable not only for our performance on the field but also for our performance in the classroom. Not only is this supposed to develop us as athletes, but it’s supposed to develop us as individuals. The mental toughness of pushing myself to the full limit in sports like Track and Field is why I’ve had a lot of success with my classes. When I had any opportunity to improve and get the desired results, I wouldn’t stop working until I accomplished my goals.
Unsurprisingly, being a student athlete has not always been an easy journey. You barely have any free time, you have to make sure to stay in shape to prevent injuries, loads of homework, and school projects, and have a balanced sleep schedule. And I’ve luckily been able to do this, but this has been hard for me as well. In my school, I’ve done a lot of sports. I’ve done Bowling, Soccer, Basketball, Flag Football, and most importantly, Track and Field. Because of our region, I’ve never had to sacrifice any free time for ninety percent of these sports, except Track and Field.
When it comes to sports, I’ve seen it all and I’ve done it all. I’ve played Soccer, Baseball, Basketball, Flag Football and all kinds of sports. But when I got to the age where I had to take sports more seriously, I stuck to Basketball. Don’t get me wrong, Basketball will always have a special place in my heart but there’s more to it. You see, there are tons of kids that have dreams of making it to the big leagues but becoming a professional basketball player is harder than it looks. A few years ago, I thought becoming more good at Basketball was going to give me a chance to truly be in the spotlight. But when I had my first Track meet at Allatuna High School that’s when everything changed.
Last year, doing my freshman year, the day after our first flag football game of the season, I had no idea what to expect. The problem I had at the time was that Flag football was the only sport I cared about at the time. I didn’t think Track and Field was going to be that important to me at the time. I watched a few videos on the bus to see the races I was going to run but I was still kind of careless. But after my firs Track meet, my attitude became the opposite.
I ran a few practice runs on the Track before my races but I still had no idea of what to expect. An hour later, I was about to run my first 100 meter dash race and I was ready. I just had one problem. I was not running with my track spikes. I was running with my jordans. The funniest part about that race is that I had the worst running shoes for it and I finished fourth place in the race. But it was only a taste of what was to come.
My last race of the day was the 200 meter dash and I was ready. I took my glasses and I was about to kick butt. There was something that always resonated with me about this race. During that day, I didn’t really care if I was going to lose my races or if I was going to be bad. I just came to have fun and I surprised myself. I was getting ready on the track and a couple of the guys I was racing against were in Public School. My vision was blurry, but the only thing I was focused on was that finish line. The gun went off, and I was gone. I was catching up with the other guys, and I went straight ahead. I came in first during my first 200-meter race, and I was hyped. I’ve never felt so alive in my life. And after that, I just kept on winning my races, and I got the Track MVP for my school.
The reason why Track And Field is my favorite sport is because it’s the first sport that truly made me feel like a champion. It gave me the motivation to push myself to the limit and show people what I’m capable of. I may not be the best jumper or the best runner. But I’m still trying to be the best of both worlds. Track And Field is one of the most versatile sports of all time. It showcases different events and different talents, and that’s what I love most about the sport. It gives people the chance to shine.
Track and Field is the sport that made me the athlete I am today. Being a multi-sport athlete is incredible, but at the end of the day, no matter what sports we do, there’s always that one sport where we get the most recognition. I’ve been a three-time Track and Field MVP for two years. And I have no words to tell you how grateful to have gotten that experience. And that’s how Mill Springs Academy made me a student athlete.
