- Trouble shoot and repair items such as cranes, winches, and wheel abraders
- Repair and assemble to manufacturer’s specifications and or to the specifications of the U.S.N.S

- Proficient with the installation of mechanical seals, lip seals, impro seals and bearings
- Measure ID and ODs using mics, do T.I.R
- On shafts and verify floats and backlash with dial indicators
- Use of telescoping gauges, depth mics, calipers and inside micrometers
- Performs hydrostatic test of valves and pumps in the range of80 psi to1500 psi
- Have ABS, Coast Guard and ship’s crew verify no leakage or confirm allotted amount within satisfactory

- Outside work involved bull rigging and use of chain falls and come along
- Operate an OTS balancing machine for pump impellors/fans/steam turbines and balance within tolerances

- 100% dismantle, remove bearings, seals and press gears off
- Check bores, gearing; bearing fits and seal fits to be sure they are to proper tolerances

- Do write up sheet and make notes for unusual anomalies and all part numbers (Bearing and Seals, seal fits etc....)
- Assemble gear boxes to all manufacturers’ specifications
