As a current correctional officer for the Florida Department of Corrections since May of 2023, I have gained invaluable experience working in a challenging and dynamic environment. Over the year, I have developed strong interpersonal skills, honed my ability to manage conflicts effectively, and learned how to maintain order and security within a correctional facility. However, after reflecting on my career goals and personal interests, I have come to realize that I am drawn to a different aspect of criminal justice - probation.
The role of a probation officer appeals to me because it offers the opportunity to work more closely with individuals who are transitioning back into society after serving time in prison. I believe that my experience as a correctional officer has equipped me with the necessary skills and knowledge to support and guide individuals as they navigate the challenges of reintegration. By making the switch from being a correctional officer to becoming a probation officer, I hope to make a positive impact on the lives of those under my supervision and contribute to their successful rehabilitation and reentry into society.
