To utilize clinical skills to provide advanced and basic life support to ill and injured patients based on established medical protocols, to provide continuing treatment and compassionate care to patients with a variety of medical emergencies, to identify appropriate medications and accurately calculate therapeutic doses for pre-hospital patient care, to streamline the patient handoff process at receiving facilities by clearly communicating relevant information to receiving staff thus ensuring seamless continuation of care, to safely drive emergency medical vehicles to scenes, to handle radio communications during emergency and non-emergency situations, to act as a preceptor for EMS students and new hires, to prepare patient care reports and keep records, & to employ proper body mechanics to safely move and lift patients.

To respond to scenes of reported deaths and perform skilled investigations, to determine whether a death is within the Medical Examiner's jurisdiction and requires further investigation based on Michigan law and WMU's School of Medicine's forensic policies and procedures, to prepare human remains for transport, to communicate effectively with emergency personnel, law enforcement, a decedent's family members, and other witnesses to obtain comprehensive information regarding the circumstances of investigations, & to submit clear and accurate reports containing pictorial evidence in a computer web based management system.
